Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) -
There were quite a few exciting finishes around four o'clock hour on Sunday, Giants and Jacksonville, Browns and Panthers, Falcons and Packers and in particular Steelers and Bills, but that's about winning and losing, not fantasy points.
As entertaining as the games were, Sunday's early contests didn't bring a lot of "big" fantasy totals with it.
There was just one 300-yard passer, five 100-yard rushers and just three players who caught 100 yards worth of passes, one of which was running back Fred Jackson.
Rodgers was the lone 300-yard passer and posted 28 fantasy points by throwing for one touchdown and running for another. He ran a lot on Sunday, supplementing his 344 yards passing with 12 carries for 51 yards.
Cleveland's Peyton Hillis totaled 194 yards from scrimmage, 131 yards on the ground and three rushing touchdowns to post a stunning 43-point afternoon. In a great year for the former Arkansas Razorback, it was his best total of the season.
Arian Foster did what he does best, carrying the load for Houston in a 20-0 whitewashing of Tennessee. While No.1 overall fantasy selection Chris Johnson could manage just five yards on the ground, Foster put up 143 on the ground and 75 via the pass on nine catches for 27 points.
Rashard Mendenhall (22 points), Michael Turner (20) and Maurice Jones-Drew (14) also earned the 100-yard rushing bonus.
The three players who cracked the 100-yard mark in receiving were; Greg Jennings, Hines Ward and Jackson. Jackson, who was facing the league's No.1 rushing defense, found other ways to contribute by catching five balls for 104 yards and a score to go along with 59 yards on the ground. He ended up with 32 fantasy points, a total almost no one would have predicted before the game got underway.
The five four o'clock games proved to be much better for the quarterback position.
Chicago signalcaller Jay Cutler threw four touchdowns against the Philadelphia Eagles, but with only 21 passes attempted, managed just 247 yards and 22 fantasy points.
Sam Bradford excelled in the light Denver air, passing for 308 yards and three touchdowns worth 25 fantasy points.
Matt Cassel didn't throw for a lot of yards, but hit Dwayne Bowe three times and Tony Moeaki once for scores and posted 27 fantasy points.
Michael Vick threw his first interception of the season, but also threw for 333 yards.
Kyle Orton threw for 347 yards and three scores in a wild one in Denver.
Even Chad Henne had a nice day with 300+ yards and a couple of scores, but not many people started him since he was a game-time decision.
Bowe had another "monster" day for Kansas City and his 13-catch, 170-yard, three touchdown day put him on top of the wide receiver list with 44 points. It was his third big game in a row.
And if anybody paid attention to my "Start Them, Sit Them" piece on Wednesday, I stated that if Mike Williams didn't play, Ben Obomanu would have a big day. Williams was inactive and Obomanu had five catches for 159 yards and a score worth 32 fantasy points.
Running backs Jamaal Charles, Matt Forte had solid late afternoon performances with 173 and 117 yards, respectively.
Many fantasy owners loaded up players in the San Diego-Indianapolis game and hope to see a bonanza of scoring from the Peyton Manning and Philip Rivers-led offenses. So the fun could still be ahead of us.
