Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) -
With the season over for all but a small percentage of the leagues, it's time to select our 2010 Fantasy All-Pro team.
Fantasy sports is a statistically driven game, meaning that emotion and reputation should have nothing to do with winning. It's all about the numbers.
Therefore, the 2010 TSN Fantasy All-Pro team is based on statistics only. "Likeability," contract size, personality, national television performances, draft position and commercial exposure will not play into the decision.
This award is not the same as our "Best Bargain and Bust Awards" which evaluates players not only on statistical production, but value based on their ADP (Average Draft Position). Those awards will be announced later.
The award is based on the first 16 weeks of the 2010 NFL season as most fantasy leagues do not use Week 17.
Michael Vick (282 fantasy points) - How good was Vick this season? He wasn't the Eagles' opening day starter, coming into that first game against Green Bay only when Kevin Kolb was injured. Vick himself was injured against the Washington Redskins in Week 4 and missed games against San Francisco, Atlanta and Tennessee. Despite missing three and-a-half games, Vick leads second-place Peyton Manning by 25 points and still has his Week 16 game to play on Tuesday night. While Vick's 20 passing touchdowns to five interceptions ratio is very good, the key to his fantasy numbers is his legs. He ran for 613 yards and eight touchdowns, including hitting the 100-yard rushing bonus in Week 1 and Week 15.
Runners-up; Peyton Manning (257), Tom Brady (253), Drew Brees (249), Philip Rivers (245).
Arian Foster (303) - Foster gave us a hint of what was in store in Week 17 of 2009 when he ran for 119 yards and two scores. But even that paled in comparison to his season-opening 231-yard, three-touchdown performance against Indianapolis. Foster has led the running back position all season and finished about 50 points ahead of a group of four runners. Preseason No.1 selection, Chris Johnson of Tennessee, who finished last year with an amazing 401 points, finished sixth with 235 points in 2010.
Runners-up; Peyton Hillis (244), LeSean McCoy (244), Darren McFadden (243), Adrian Peterson (241).
Roddy White (237) - A maturing Matt Ryan at quarterback and a diverse offense helped White lead all fantasy receivers. He got off to a huge start, with five 100+ yard games in the first nine contests. He's faltered down the stretch and into the fantasy playoffs, scoring just one touchdown over the past five weeks but still managed to beat Brandon Lloyd for the scoring title.
Antonio Gates (166) - It's a testament to how good Gates was early in the season that he's played just two games since Week 8 and still leads all tight ends in scoring. He had nine touchdowns in those first eight games and 663 of his 782 receiving yards. Dallas tight end Jason Witten will catch Gates in those fantasy leagues which use a 17-week season and was the No.1 tight end in the fantasy playoff with 254 yards and four touchdowns from Week 14-16.
Runners-up; Jason Witten (165), Vernon Davis (129), Marcedes Lewis (124).
David Akers (133) - With a Tuesday night contest still to go, Akers easily out-pointed Matt Bryant and Sebastien Janikowski for the scoring title. He missed just five kicks all season, going 30-for-35 on field goal attempts.
Runners-up; Matt Bryant (121), Sebastien Janikowski (119).
Pittsburgh Steelers (150) - The Steelers yielded a league-low 14.9 ppg and with the help of three interceptions returned for touchdowns, one kickoff return for a TD, 44 sacks and 32 turnovers averaged a league-leading 10 ppg for fantasy owners.
Runners-up; Chicago Bears (139), Green Bay Packers (136), New England Patriots (130).
