Stephen Jackson gives the scoring-disadvantaged Bobcats a new weapon.
Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) -
The trading of Stephen Jackson to the Charlotte Bobcats effects more than just "Captain Jack's" owners. In might actually effect half the teams in your league.
Here's how it works.
On Monday, the Golden State Warriors traded guard/forward Jackson and guard Acie Law to Charlotte for Raja Bell and Vladimir Radmanovic.
The 6'8" multi-positional Jackson, gives the scoring-disadvantaged Bobcats (82.4 ppg which is 30th of 30 teams) a new weapon. Jackson was averaging just 16.6 ppg this season, but put up 20.7 ppg, 6.5 apg and 5.1 rpg in 2008-09. To his fantasy detriment, Jackson's numbers may fall because he is no longer in a run-and-shoot offense.
So will those around him, who will have to give up shots and opportunities. Jackson can play both small forward and point guard as well as shooting guard which could lower the statistics of both Raymond Felton, D.J. Augustin and Gerald Wallace. He will certainly take shots away from both starters lowering their value.
In Golden State, Bell should see immediate fantasy dividends. He comes to the No.1 scoring team in the league (111.6 ppg) which takes 8.4 more shots per game than Charlotte. And he'll be the team's best defender (maybe their only one) which should keep him on the floor.
Bell was averaging 12.0 ppg, 4.2 rpg and 2.0 apg in Charlotte, but his numbers should return to what he used to produce in Phoenix. He could easily average 15 ppg in Golden State which should make him a viable fantasy contributor. He's owned in just 15% of all leagues.
Radmanovic could help a fantasy owner if he needs three-point shooting as he used to be a 40% guy and might return to that level in the more wide-open Warriors offense.
Meanwhile, with Jackson's almost 17 shots-per-game in North Carolina and a long-term injury to Kelenna Azubuike, there is an opportunity for other Warriors to improve their numbers. Rookie Stephen Curry is averaging 8.3 ppg on 7.1 shots, but those numbers could easily improve. Monta Ellis and Corey Maggette could also see a spike in their numbers.
So the trade of Jackson, effects not just Jackson's numbers, but also those of Felton, Wallace, Augustin, Curry, Ellis and Maggette.
