Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) -
In the world we live in, youth frequently gets all the media hype and fan attention, but fantasy owners should not ignore the "aged and infirm."
Sure, Kevin Durant and LaMarcus Aldridge are playing out of this world, but you likely can't trade for either unless you offer your entire roster.
You could, however, pick up the five "old" guys listed below for a comparative "song and a dance" and they have been playing very well of late.
Baron Davis, Los Angeles Clippers - In his last game, Davis posted 16 points and 16 assists. More importantly, the 31-year-old played 40 minutes. It was the first time all season he has played that long and showed he is as healthy as he has been all season. Over the past two weeks he's averaging 16.7 ppg, 4.6 rpg and 9.1 apg in 34+ minutes of action. Given that Eric Gordon's return is still a few weeks away, he should continue to produce points. And even when Gordon gets back, a healthy Davis could be valuable down the stretch. There is a one-in-10 chance that he's a free agent in your league (88% owned), but I would be willing to trade for him too.
Elton Brand, Philadelphia - After last season's 13.1 ppg, 6.1 rpg effort, Brand was thought of as barely "fantasy-worth" in the preseason draft. But rumors of his "death" were premature. Brand has improved in every category over last year and over the past 14 days has been a "monster." He's averaging 19.3 ppg, including 33 against the Knicks, and 7.9 rpg over the span, hitting almost 60% of his shots.
Chauncey Billups, Denver - Billups returned from a knee injury against the Mavericks and carried the Nuggets in the first half, scoring 20 of his 30 points in the first 24 minutes. Now that rumors of his imminent trade have died down, he's back to doing what he does best - making the big shot.
Ray Allen, Boston - With the Celtics dealing with injuries throughout their lineup, they and fantasy owners have been enjoying Allen's recent success. The media has been watching his run towards the three-point shooting record, but Allen has been doing more than shooting "triples." For the season he's averaging 17.5 ppg, 3.6 rpg and 3.0 apg, but over the last two weeks he's increased his scoring averaging to almost 19 ppg.
Andre Kirilenko, Utah - Kirilenko recently missed three games with an ankle injury, but he's been a solid contributor in the box score...as always. In his most recent game against the Chicago Bulls, he posted 13 points, 10 rebounds, two assists, two steals and four blocked shots. That's what he does - filling up every space on the scoresheet. He's played almost 40 minutes a night since returning from the injury, so he's obviously healthy and ready to help your lineup.
