There's not a hotter hitter in baseball over the past seven games than Jose Bautista.
Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) -
No, this is not a story about the smoking hot neighbor who lives a few doors down. It's about six fantasy baseball players who are playing well above expectations and are likely free agents in your league.
We're beginning the seventh week of the baseball season and those hitters and pitchers who have yet to play up to their abilities might need to be replaced (except for those who are known to be slow starters).
Keeping that in mind, here are three hitters and three pitchers who might make good substitutes.
Jose Bautista, Toronto - There's not a hotter hitter in baseball over the past seven games than Bautista (ADP 896). Four homers, eight RBI, eight runs scored and an OPS of 1.676. Owned in just 35% of all leagues, Bautista is eligible to play either third base or outfield.
Martin Prado, Atlanta - Prado (ADP 228) may not be available, being owned in 75% of all leagues, but if you are the one-in-four leagues where he is a free agent, you must consider making him a waiver pickup. Prado has five multi-hit games in the last seven Braves games and has hit three homers and knocked in 11 runs. He's played primarily second base, but in Yahoo leagues is eligible for 1B and 3B as well.
Troy Glaus, Atlanta - After a slow start (.194 batting average in April), Glaus is finally doing what the Braves management expected of him. He's batting .400 for May with three homers and 16 RBI. He hit all three of those homers in the last week while putting up an OPS of 1.333. Glaus is owned in less than 15% of all leagues.
Mat Latos, San Diego - Latos was nearly perfect against the Giants last Thursday, giving up just one hit in a complete-game shutout. He was also very good the previous outing, yielding just two hits in eight innings against Houston. He's just 3-3 for the season but with an ERA of 3.32 and a solid WHIP of 0.97. His next three starts will be at the Dodgers and then back home for two games in the pitcher-friendly confines of PETCO Park against St. Louis and the New York Mets. He's owned in around 40% of all leagues.
Joel Pineiro, Anaheim - Pineiro had an up and down April, but so far May has been consistently good. He's thrown 21.1 innings this month with an ERA of 0.84, a WHIP of 1.03 and 17 strikeouts. He's just 1-1 for the month, but the numbers say he's pitched much better than that. His next outing will be against his former club, the St. Louis Cardinals. He's owned in less than 40% of all leagues.
Johnny Cueto, Cincinnati - Cueto dominated the Pittsburgh Pirates last time out going nine innings and giving up just one hit. His next two outings should be against Milwaukee and Cleveland and if he pitches anything like he did last week he could get you two wins this week.
