Philadelphia, PA (SportsNetwork.com) -
San Diego Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers is on the comeback trail, and the path couldn't be smoother going forward.
Rivers, who turned the football over 47 times combined over the previous two seasons, has thrown for 1,199 yards, 11 touchdowns and two interceptions while completing 73.9 percent of his passes and fumbling zero times in the first four games this year.
The schedule sets up very nicely for Rivers to continue his renaissance under rookie head coach Mike McCoy.
Up next for Rivers are the Oakland Raiders, who have allowed the ninth most fantasy points per week to opposing quarterbacks this season and have not picked off a pass yet.
The Chargers will follow up that game with matchups against the Colts, at the Jaguars and at Washington after the Week 8 bye.
Jacksonville has given up the seventh most fantasy points per week to opposing quarterbacks and Washington the fourth most.
Indianapolis appears to be a tough matchup, as they have given up the fourth fewest fantasy points per week to QBs, but look at the quarterbacks the Colts have faced: Terrelle Pryor, Ryan Tannehill, Colin Kaepernick and Blaine Gabbert. That's not exactly a lineup of Peyton Manning, Drew Brees, Aaron Rodgers and Matt Ryan.
The matchups get harder after that, as San Diego faces the Denver Broncos, Miami Dolphins, Kansas City Chiefs and Cincinnati Bengals from Weeks 10-13, respectively, but Rivers' numbers after Week 9 should be among the top five in fantasy, which will make him a valuable trade commodity if fantasy owners want to go that route.
Plus, I trust Mike McCoy to game plan his way through those four games after he pioneered a successful offense with Tim Tebow at the helm in 2011, completely changed directions last year when Peyton Manning came to town and then rescued Rivers' career even though running back Danny Woodhead and 33-year-old Antonio Gates are his top receivers.
Unless you have Manning, Brees or Rodgers, you should be buying Rivers as a QB1 now. The resurgence is real, and the competition, at least for the next four games, isn't.
