Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) -
Brooklyn Nets power forward Reggie Evans has one task on nearly every possession -- stand under the hoop and grab missed shots.
He's only in the NBA for that one reason.
And yet, he's doing that so well this month that fantasy owners need to start considering him for a roster spot.
Evans pulled down 22 rebounds Wednesday against the Dallas Mavericks, his third game with at least 22 rebounds in his last seven contests. He has logged double-digit boards in nine of 10 games this month and is averaging 14.9 per game in March.
The 245-pound forward has a career average of 13.1 rebounds per 36 minutes, but his offensive issues have allowed him to stay on the court for just 19 minutes per game.
Evans has one of the most limited offensive games in the NBA -- 70 of his 89 made field goals have come on layups this season.
But the Nets have plenty of offensive players in Deron Williams, Joe Johnson and Brook Lopez, and Lopez just happens to be a 7-foot center who doesn't rebound well.
That means Evans fits in perfectly with Brooklyn's starting five.
The power forward leads the NBA in total rebound rate (the percentage of a team's rebounds the player grabbed during his time on the court) at 24.4, according to hoopdata.com.
Over his last 21 games, Evans has been more heavily used and has provided an average of 13 rebounds in 26 minutes per game, compared to 8.8 rebounds in 22 minutes over his first 46 games. And he has played 28.5 minutes and averaged 16 rebounds per game over his last eight.
With the NBA season winding down, Evans can help fantasy owners make up major ground in the rebounding category in a short amount of time, whereas a player who spreads around his moderate contributions probably won't make much of a difference in any categories at this point.
