Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) -
When Atlanta Hawks center Al Horford suffered a torn right pectoral muscle on Dec. 26 and had season-ending surgery, the Hawks lost 18.6 points, 8.4 rebounds and 1.5 blocks per game.
Paul Millsap is trying to make up all of that on his own.
Millsap has averaged 28 points, 11.7 boards, 2.0 blocks and 1.7 steals in three games since Horford went down. He set season highs with 34 points and 15 rebounds Tuesday at Boston in a 92-91 win, two games after scoring 33 points and grabbing 13 rebounds in a two-point win over Charlotte.
In his last 15 games, Millsap has averaged 20.7 points, 10.7 rebounds, 2.9 assists, 1.8 threes, 1.5 steals and 1.3 blocks per game.
Twelve of those games came with Horford still in the lineup.
Millsap has a history of strong fantasy production, but he's never been this good.
In the last five seasons with the Utah Jazz, Millsap averaged 31 minutes, 14.6 points, 7.7 rebounds, 2.1 assists, 1.2 steals and 1.0 blocks per game. He brought his scoring up to 16.1 ppg in three seasons after becoming a full-time starter for Utah in 2010-11.
He posted similar numbers in his first month with Atlanta, averaging 15.3 points, 6.7 rebounds, 2.4 assists, 1.7 steals and 0.9 blocks up until Nov. 29.
A sudden willingness to shoot the three-ball has helped Millsap add to his scoring.
After attempting 0.3 threes per game with Utah from 2008-2013 and 1.3 in his first 16 games with Atlanta, Millsap has put up 4.0 shots per game (and made 45 percent) from behind the arc in his last 15 games.
But the power forward is also taking the ball inside and getting to the free- throw line. In the aforementioned 15-game stretch, Millsap attempted 5.7 foul shots per game and made 75.3 percent. That includes 12.7 free-throw attempts per game in the three games without Horford.
With Horford gone and Millsap scoring from all over the court, Atlanta's power forward should be a nightly 20-10 threat the rest of the season.
He's also one of four players, along with Rudy Gay, Josh Smith and Wesley Johnson, averaging 1.0 steals, 1.0 blocks and 1.0 threes per game.
Fantasy owners just have to hope Millsap doesn't burn himself out trying to do it all for Atlanta.
