Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) -
Let's check in on which players have been driving fantasy owners' success and which ones have been driving us mad recently in this week's edition of "Who's Hot, Who's Not."
Miguel Cabrera, 3B Detroit Tigers - No hitter has ever earned a Triple Crown in consecutive seasons, but Cabrera is going to make a run at accomplishing that. He's leading the majors with a .387 average and 52 RBI and is second in the AL in home runs with 13, one behind leader Chris Davis. Cabrera went 11-for-20 (.550) with two doubles, five homers, 11 RBI, three walks and eight runs over his last five games, and is hitting .418 with nine homers in May.
Joey Votto, 1B Cincinnati Reds - As we covered Wednesday, Votto's power and RBI numbers are down this season, but he's hitting .358 with a 1.029 OPS and 38 runs. He has hit safely in 11 straight games and is batting .591 (13-for-22) with a 1.724 OPS over his last six games.
David Ortiz, DH Boston Red Sox - Ortiz hit .200 and didn't have a multi-hit game over the first 13 games this month, but he is batting .440 (11-for-25) with two homers, nine RBI, three walks and five runs in his last six contests.
Francisco Liriano, LHP Pittsburgh Pirates - Liriano has gone 3-0 in three starts since returning from a fractured right arm, and he two-hit the Chicago Cubs and fanned nine over seven scoreless innings Wednesday night. He has struck out 25 batters, walked six and allowed just two runs in 18 innings this season.
Patrick Corbin, LHP Arizona Diamondbacks - Corbin hasn't allowed more than two earned runs in any start this season and is coming off his best outing of the season, a complete game in which he allowed three hits and one run and struck out 10 at Coors Field. The left-hander is 7-0 with a 1.44 ERA and a 0.98 WHIP.
Cliff Lee, LHP Philadelphia Phillies - Lee had little trouble with the Miami Marlins Wednesday night in his 12th career shutout, a three-hitter in which he struck out five. The lefty is 3-0 with a 1.16 ERA and a 0.84 WHIP over his last four turns.
Ike Davis, 1B New York Mets - If you thought Davis couldn't sink any lower than where he was on May 10 -- hitting .190 with four homers and 35 strikeouts in 105 at-bats -- you were wrong. Davis is coming increasingly closer to a demotion with a 1-for-38 (.026) stretch in which he has struck out 14 times.
Danny Espinosa, 2B Washington Nationals - Having Ike Davis in your division certainly helps deflect attention away from your own dreadfulness. Espinosa is batting .163 with 40 strikeouts and just four walks this season and has gone 4- for-46 with 18 Ks over his last 12 games.
Rickie Weeks, 2B Milwaukee Brewers - Weeks hasn't had a multi-hit game since May 2, has six hits in his last 53 at-bats and one hit with nine strikeouts in his last 20.
Jeremy Guthrie, RHP Kansas City Royals - Guthrie is feeling the cold hand of regression taking hold of his season. He was 5-0 with a 2.28 ERA over his first seven starts, but has dropped two straight starts and allowed 19 hits and 11 earned with just two Ks in 12 innings during that span.
Ryan Dempster, RHP Boston Red Sox - Dempster has had mixed results in his first season with the Red Sox. He has a career-high 10.77 K/9, but has walked 4.27 batters per nine innings and allowed nine homers in 52 2/3 innings. Over his last two starts, he has allowed 15 hits, walked seven and given up 11 earned runs in 9 2/3 innings.
Barry Zito, LHP San Francisco Giants - Zito has been throwing batting practice over his last two starts: he has allowed 23 hits and 10 earned runs in 11 1/3 innings in that timeframe. Zito has allowed line drives at a sky-high rate of 30.6 percent this year, second worst in the majors.
