Description: The Ravens are keeping receiver/return specialist Jacoby Jones.
Insight: Jones signed a four-year deal to stay with Baltimore on Wednesday. His knack for the big play may intrigue some fantasy owners but with just 2,602 receiving yards spread out over seven seasons, Jones doesn't have a high ceiling. Save him for the end of your draft.
Description: Video has surfaced of Ravens running back Ray Rice dragging his fiancee, who appears to be unconscious, out of an elevator at an Atlantic City casino. SOURCE: TMZ
Insight: Rice, who is now facing domestic violence charges, has been accused of hitting his fiancee and knocking her unconscious. The three-time Pro Bowler is due in court next Tuesday. It could be a while before this ugly situation is resolved.
Description: According to the Baltimore Sun, Ravens running back Ray Rice was arrested over the weekend after an alleged physical altercation with a woman at a casino in Atlantic City.
Insight: Rice's attorney said that Rice was charged and released after an alleged "very minor physical altercation." The Ravens RB is coming off a miserable season in which he played through a hip injury and rushed for just 660 yards and four TDs in 15 games. He established career lows with 3.1 yards per carry and 5.5 yards per catch.
Description: Terrell Suggs may not be back with the Ravens next year. SOURCE: Baltimore Sun
Insight: For him to come back, Suggs is probably going to have to take a pay cut. Suggs, who registered ten sacks this past season, may not be willing to do that. Obviously Suggs is going to have a huge market as a free agent if Baltimore ends up releasing him.
Description: Despite being listed as questionable with a thigh injury, Baltimore halfback Ray Rice is active and starting in Week 17.
Insight: Rice has been a roll of the dice this season with just four touchdowns and 645 rushing yards in 14 games this season. He ran into brick walls the last time he faced the Bengals, finishing with just 30 yards on 18 carries. Rice figures to be a flex or low level RB2 in Week 17.
Description: Baltimore wideout Torrey Smith is active for the season finale against Cincinnati.
Insight: The talented third-year receiver hasn't scored since Week 13, but now would be a good time to break the scoreless streak. He has 62 receptions for 1,101 yards and four touchdowns this season but hasn't cracked the 100-yard mark since Week 5.
Description: Veteran wideout Brandon Stokley will retire after 15 NFL seasons. SOURCE: Denver Post
Insight: The Ravens put Stokley on injured reserve after he suffered a concussion in Week 14. He'll finish his career with 397 catches, 5,339 receiving yards and 39 touchdowns. He spent five seasons in Baltimore, four with Denver, four in Indianapolis and one each with the Giants and Seahawks.
Description: Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco (knee) ended up having an MRI and it revealed a "mild" MCL sprain, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN. He's expected to play in Week 16, but will wear a brace against the Patriots.
Insight: Flacco suffered the injury Monday when Detroit's DeAndre Levy fell forward into his left knee. "It wasn't really bothering me once the initial hit," Flacco said Monday night, via the Baltimore Sun's Jeff Zrebiec. "I was probably more scared than anything from just what I felt and also just trying to get a couple of yards out of it. Yeah, it feels fine. It feels strong." Flacco hasn't exceeded 20 fantasy points in a game this season and is averaging 12.6 fantasy points per game.
Description: Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco (knee) practiced Wednesday in a limited capacity and should play in Week 16 against the Patriots.
Insight: Flacco suffered a left knee injury Monday when Detroit's DeAndre Levy fell forward into it. However, he didn't even need an MRI. "It wasn't really bothering me once the initial hit," Flacco said Sunday night, via the Baltimore Sun's Jeff Zrebiec. "I was probably more scared than anything from just what I felt and also just trying to get a couple of yards out of it. Yeah, it feels fine. It feels strong." Flacco hasn't exceeded 20 fantasy points in a game this season and is averaging 12.6 fantasy points per game.
Description: Ravens receiver Brandon Stokley has been placed on season-ending injured reserve.
Insight: Stokley hasn't been much of a fantasy asset with just 13 catches this season. Torrey Smith and Marlon Brown have played well and the team is trying to develop the other young guys as Stokley isn't part of the long-term future.
Description: Ravens tight end Dallas Clark won't be active for Sunday's game against Minnesota.
Insight: Dennis Pitta has replaced him in the starting lineup. It appears Clark's days of fantasy significance are over, at least for this season. Expect him to be a healthy scratch the rest of the way.
Description: The Ravens have activated tight end Dennis Pitta (hip) from injured reserve according to Mike Garafolo of Fox Sports.
Insight: Pitta is expected to return Sunday against the Vikings, but because he'll be on a limited snap count he'll be no better than a TE2. He could emerge as a starting fantasy option in Weeks 15-17, however, as Joe Flacco has been hurting for a consistent underneath target all season.
Description: According to espn.com, Ravens coach John Harbaugh is "pretty hopeful" tight end Dennis Pitta (hip) will be able to play Sunday against the Vikings.
Insight: "I think it's going to be a matter of how ready is he to play and how healthy he is to play," Harbaugh said. "Something like that, all of the doctors are going to be involved. The health of the player comes first. That's the No. 1 thing, his ability to withstand the rigors of a game. I think we're on track that way. We'll just have to see how it plays out." Given the lack of top option at the tight end position, Pitta could be a worthwhile stash for Weeks 15-16, but will likely be on a snap count if he plays Sunday.
Description: Aaron Wilson of the Baltimore Sun says the best-case scenario for Ravens tight end Dennis Pitta's return from a hip injury is Week 14 against Minnesota.
Insight: Pitta practiced this week for the first time since dislocating his hip in training camp. He's unlikely to play Sunday against the Jets and is highly questionable for a Thanksgiving Day matchup against the Steelers. Given the state of the tight end position after Rob Gronkowski, Jimmy Graham and Vernon Davis, fantasy owners should stash Pitta as he'll see plenty of targets from Joe Flacco when he returns to the lineup.
Description: Baltimore tight end Dennis Pitta returned to practice on Wednesday.
Insight: It's the first time he's practiced since dislocating his hip in training camp. Because of how much time he's missed, it's going to take a while for Pitta to get back into playing shape. We'd be surprised to see him back before Week 14.
Description: Ravens running back Ray Rice broke loose for 131 yards and a touchdown on 25 carries Sunday at Chicago.
Insight: Rice's long gain of 47 was more yards than he had in seven of his eight games this season. While it was a positive sign for Rice owners, it's too early to say if Rice is fully back to must-start status because the Bears have one of the worst run defenses in the NFL. Rice will have to prove himself again in Week 12 against the stout Jets run defense before he regains our trust.
Description: Ravens coach John Harbaugh said he will go with a hot-hand approach at the running back position, according to baltimoreravens.com. "Both of those guys are going to get a large number of carries, and I think whichever guy is playing better should get more carries as we go forward," Harbaugh said.
Insight: But how will Harbaugh choose if both Ray Rice and Bernard Pierce are rushing for under 3.0 yards per carry like they have all season? Rice is down to 2.5 ypc on 289 yards after another abysmal effort (18 carries, 30 rushing yards, six catches, 26 receiving yards) Sunday against the Bengals. Harbaugh said he thinks Rice's hip flexor strain and shoddy run blocking are behind his dropoff this season.
Description: Ravens running back Ray Rice had just 17 rushing yards on 11 carries and 21 receiving yards on three catches Sunday at Cleveland.
Insight: The turnaround doesn't seem to be coming for Rice. In seven games, he has just 259 rushing yards on 97 carries (2.7 ypc), 135 receiving yards on 27 catches and three touchdowns. Bernard Pierce has averaged 2.7 ypc as well, so it's likely the Ravens just cannot run block rather than Rice being done as a useful NFL player.
Description: Baltimore wideout Torrey Smith was invisible Sunday in a loss to Green Bay.
Insight: The talented third-year receiver came away with just one catch for 12 yards. Before Sunday, Smith had recorded at least 85 yards receiving in each of his first five games. He'll hope for better luck next time out against the Steelers.
Description: Baltimore QB Joe Flacco (20-for-34, 342 yds, 2 TD Sunday against the Packers) has now thrown for at least 300 yards in two of his last three games.
Insight: Unfortunately for Flacco, both of those 300-yard efforts have come in Ravens losses. Flacco isn't usually prone to throwing interceptions but this season, he's actually tossed more picks (eight) than touchdowns (seven).
Description: Ravens coach John Harbaugh wasn't lying when he said he wanted to get Ray Rice more involved in the offense in Week 5. Rice touched the football 33 times.
Insight: Rice had 27 carries for 74 yards and six catches for 28 while also crossing the goal line twice. It was the game Rice's fantasy owners were looking for after four disappointing and injury-plagued games.
Description: Ravens receiver Torrey Smith pulled in six passes for 121 yards Sunday at Miami.
Insight: Smith is now "Mr. Consistency." He's produced at least 85 receiving yards and at least five catches in all five games this season and has 27 receptions for 556 yards and a touchdown in five games.
Description: Ravens rookie wideout Marlon Brown, who has a hamstring injury, is inactive for Sunday's game against the Dolphins.
Insight: Brown has three touchdowns in four games but his fantasy value will take a hit when Jacoby Jones returns. Jones (knee) is also out Sunday, leaving Torrey Smith, Tandon Doss and Deonte Thompson as the only healthy WRs for the Ravens.
Description: The Ravens cut wideout Brandon Stokley on Saturday.
Insight: Stokley missed last week's game with a groin injury and the Ravens didn't want to waste a roster spot on him now that Deonte Thompson is healthy again. He caught nine passes for 79 yards in his three games with Baltimore.
Description: Ravens coach John Harbaugh has vowed to get running back Ray Rice more involved in the offense after barely using him against the Bills in Week 4. SOURCE: NFL.com
Insight: Inexplicably, the Ravens completely abandoned the run in the second half as Rice didn't receive his first second half carry until four minutes were remaining in the fourth quarter. The result was Baltimore's second loss of the season. Rice, who is now two weeks removed from a hip flexor injury, should be a decent fantasy play against the Dolphins in Week 5. Of course, that's assuming Harbaugh is actually telling the truth and this isn't just a ploy to get Miami off track.
Description: Sunday was a day Joe Flacco will want to forget. He tossed a career-high five interceptions in a loss to Buffalo.
Insight: Flacco had thrown five interceptions in his previous 12 games before Sunday's disastrous outing. Flacco's 46.4 quarterback rating on Sunday was his worst since Week 7 against Houston last season (45.4).
Description: Ravens receiver Brandon Stokley is inactive for Week 4.
Insight: Stokley hasn't been much of a fantasy receiver over the first three weeks, so this shouldn't effect any lineups. It could, however, send a few more targets toward Torrey Smith and Marlon Brown.
Description: Ravens RB Ray Rice (hip) is officially active for Sunday's game against the Bills.
Insight: Rice practiced all week with no setbacks to his hip injury and should be started in all fantasy leagues against a Bills run defense that made Bilal Powell look like a star in Week 3. Bernard Pierce will still be involved and is a solid flex option.
Description: Ravens RB Ray Rice (hip) will play Sunday against the Bills unless he suffers a setback in pre-game warmups. SOURCE: Adam Schefter, ESPN
Insight: Rice has practiced all week with no setbacks to his hip injury, so we expect he'll get through pre-game warmups just fine. If Rice does play, he should be started in all fantasy leagues against a Bills run defense that made Bilal Powell look like a star in Week 3. Bernard Pierce will still be involved and is a solid flex option.
Description: Ravens RB Ray Rice (hip) practiced again Friday (limited), but will still be a game-time decision.
Insight: When asked after practice, Rice said, "It did feel good and barring no setbacks I could be out there Sunday." When athletes use "could" instead of "will" its a telling sign they aren't confident that they will be ready. Be prepared to go with Bernard Pierce or another option.
Description: Ravens rookie wideout Marlon Brown (neck) was a full participant in Friday's practice and should be ready to go Sunday versus Buffalo.
Insight: Brown had 12 targets, eight receptions, 110 yards and two touchdowns over the first two games before being held to two catches for six yards in Week 3. He has a great matchup in Week 4 against the Bills. Buffalo who have given up 43 catches, 639 yards and five touchdowns to opposing receivers this season.
Description: According to Albert Breer of NFL.com, Ravens RB Ray Rice (hip) practiced again Thursday.
Insight: Breer says that internally the Ravens think the injury is not serious and that pain tolerance is the key. If Rice plays he should be started in all leagues. Bernard Pierce should also be started as a flex play against the Bills even if Rice is active.
Description: Ravens rookie wideout Marlon Brown (neck) will return to practice Thursday after missing Wednesday's practice with a stiff neck. SOURCE: Baltimore Sun
Insight: "I just had a stiff neck out of nowhere," Brown said. "Yeah, I'm good. There's nothing to be concerned about. I'm not concerned." Brown had 12 targets, eight receptions, 110 yards and two touchdowns over the first two games before being held to two catches for six yards in Week 3, but he has a great matchup in Week 4 against the Bills. Buffalo has given up 43 catches, 639 yards and five touchdowns to opposing receivers this season.
Description: Aaron Wilson of the Baltimore Sun was told that Ravens halfback Ray Rice expects to be back this week.
Insight: Rice missed last week's win over Houston with a strained hip flexor. Even before the injury, Rice had been losing carries to up-and-comer Bernard Pierce. The two players are virtually in a time share at running back.
Description: Injured Ravens receiver Jacoby Jones was involved in a strange incident Sunday night. SOURCE: TMZ.com
Insight: Jones was struck in the head with a bottle of liquor while attending teammate Bryant McKinnie's party bus. Jones was already dealing with a knee injury. Having a possible concussion to deal with on top of that certainly won't help his recovery process.
Description: Ravens backup running back Bernard Pierce carried the football 24 times for 65 yards and a touchdown in Week 3 against Houston.
Insight: Starting in place of the injured Ray Rice, Pierce didn't do much yardage-wise but salvaged the game with a touchdown in the third quarter. Rice is expected to miss Week 4 at Buffalo, which should be a much better matchup for Pierce.
Description: Baltimore wideout Torrey Smith caught five passes for 92 yards Sunday against the Texans.
Insight: The Ravens passing game hasn't looked particularly dynamic this season, but Smith has produced 85-92 yards in all three games. Consistency was a major issue for him over the past two years, but he appears to be a reliable fantasy receiver.
Description: Baltimore running back Ray Rice, who is dealing with a strained hip flexor, missed Wednesday's practice.
Insight: The Ravens are lucky the injury wasn't more serious, but Rice's health is still a big question mark. Bernard Pierce will start if Rice can't and even if Rice plays will likely get a bigger share of the rushing attempts.
Description: Baltimore running back Ray Rice is dealing with a strained hip flexor and is considered day-to-day.
Insight: The Ravens are lucky the injury wasn't more serious, but Rice's health is still a big question mark heading into next week's game versus Houston. Bernard Pierce saw 19 carries on Sunday and he should get an even bigger workload in Week 3 if Rice is unavailable. Even if Rice plays, expect Pierce to get a bigger piece of the pie.
Description: Baltimore halfback Ray Rice is dealing with a strained hip flexor. SOURCE: Jamison Hensley, ESPN.com
Insight: The Ravens are lucky the injury wasn't more serious but Rice's health is still a big question mark heading into next week's game versus Houston. Bernard Pierce saw 19 carries on Sunday and he should get an even bigger workload in Week 3 if Rice is unavailable.
Description: Ravens' backup running back Bernard Pierce had a thigh wrapped after the game, but should be ready for Week 2.
Insight: Ray Rice owners were probably hoping they would have their guy go in alone, but it apparently won't happen. The Ravens' running game should get more work this week than against Denver in Week 1 where they fell way behind on the scoreboard.
Description: Baltimore receiver/return specialist Jacoby Jones' MRI on Friday showed a sprained MCL which will keep in off the fied for 4-6 weeks, according to Aaron Wilson of the Baltimore Sun.
Insight: His absence showed how thin the Ravens are at wide receiver. The team was left with Torrey Smith, 37-year-old Brandon Stokley and rookie Marlon Brown. The Ravens may have to search for outside help.
Description: Baltimore receiver/return specialist Jacoby Jones (sprained knee) will have an MRI on Friday.
Insight: His absence showed how thin the Ravens are at wide receiver. The team was left with Torrey Smith, 37-year-old Brandon Stokley and rookie Marlon Brown. If the Jones injury turns out to be lengthy the team may have to search for outside help.
Description: Ravens tight end Ed Dickson (hamstring) has practiced all week and has been upgraded to probable for Thursday night's season opener.
Insight: Dickson suffered a slight tear of his hamstring in early August, but apparently will be ready to go which is huge considering the team had already lost starter Dennis Pitta. Veteran Dallas Clark backs him up.
Description: Ravens tight end Ed Dickson (hamstring) isn't likely to be ready for Week 1, according to ESPN's Chris Mortensen.
Insight: Dickson has a slight tear of his hamstring, which is just about the last thing the Ravens needed after losing starting tight end Dennis Pitta to a broken hip early in training camp. Dickson shouldn't be counted on as more than a TE2 even if he's healthy. The Ravens officially signed Dallas Clark Monday.
Description: Dallas Clark has agreed to join the Ravens. SOURCE: Adam Schefter, ESPN
Insight: With Dennis Pitta and Ed Dickson both out with injuries, this just made too much sense not to happen. He's not one of the top-tier tight ends anymore but Clark can still be productive. Keep an eye out for him in fantasy.
Description: The Ravens have agreed to terms with receiver Brandon Stokley, according to the Baltimore Sun. Stokley was drafted by the Ravens in the fourth round of the 1999 NFL Draft and won a Super Bowl with the team.
Insight: Stokley caught 45 passes for 544 yards and five touchdowns last season playing with his buddy Peyton Manning in Denver. The Ravens were in need of a possession receiver after they traded Anquan Boldin and had Dennis Pitta suffer a season ending injury. Stokley is unlikely to provide much fantasy value.
Description: Ravens backup running back Bernard Pierce had a knee wrapped after the game, but we haven't heard of any major problems.
Insight: Pierce is expected to be a much bigger part of the Baltimore offense this season including a set with the team using him in the backfield and Ray Rice split out as a receiver. We await further word.
Description: Ravens wideout Deonte Thompson injured his ankle in Thursday night's preseason game and was seen using a walking boot, according to a Baltimore Sun report.
Insight: Thompson is the fourth receiver behind Torrey Smith, Jacoby Jones and Tandon Doss, but was getting some time with the first string at camp. This injury will likely slow the second-year player's progress.
Description: Ravens tight end Ed Dickson's hamstring injury isn't expected to keep him out Week 1. SOURCE: Aaron Wilson, Baltimore Sun
Insight: Dickson's MRI showed a slight tear of his hamstring, which is just about the last thing the Ravens needed after losing starting tight end Dennis Pitta to a broken hip last week. Dickson might miss the entire preseason and shouldn't be counted on as more than a TE2 even if he's healthy.
Description: A hamstring injury could sideline Ravens tight end Ed Dickson for about "a week or so." SOURCE: Aaron Wilson, Baltimore Sun
Insight: Dickson's MRI showed a slight tear, which is just about the last thing the Ravens needed after losing starting tight end Dennis Pitta to a broken hip last week. We'll see if he's able to play through the injury.
Description: The Ravens have re-signed fullback Vonta Leach to a two-year contract, according to Jason La Canfora of CBSSports.com.
Insight: Dennis Pitta's season-ending injury precipitated a reunion with Leach, as the team will now use rookie Kyle Juszcsyk as the backup tight end and H-back instead of at fullback. Leach is one of the top blocking fullbacks in the NFL, so his presence certainly helps Ray Rice and Bernard Pierce.
Description: Ravens tight end Dennis Pitta underwent surgery on his broken hip Saturday and will now miss the entire 2013 season. SOURCE: Adam Schefter, ESPN
Insight: First Jeremy Maclin goes down and now Pitta ... when did training camp become so dangerous? This is a really tough pill to swallow for the Ravens as Pitta was a major part of the team's passing game last season (61 catches, seven TD) and was expected to play an even bigger role in 2013. Now Ed Dickson (21 grabs, 225 yards last season) will have to play most of the snaps at tight end for Baltimore.
Description: Ravens linebacker Jameel McClain (spinal cord contusion) was expected to be further along in recovery and is a question mark for Week 1, according to a Baltimore Sun report.
Insight: McClain had 78 tackles in 13 games last season. Baltimore will see a lot a changes at linebacker this season. Ray Lewis will not be there, McClain is likely to start the season on the PUP list and newcomer Elvis Dumervil will make his debut in purple. They will need OLB Terrell Suggs at his best.
Description: According to the Baltimore Sun, the Ravens aren't planning to dramatically alter how they divide up the playing time between Ray Rice and Bernard Pierce.
Insight: Pierce rushed for 532 yards on 108 carries last season, an average of 6.75 carries per game. He's expected to get more playing time this season, but not enough to alter Rice's fantasy value much in 2013. Rice is currently going at an ADP of 8.3 in fantasyfootballcalculator.com mock drafts.
Description: Ravens halfback Bernard Pierce was involved in a scary incident this weekend in Philadelphia but it appears that he was able to escape without any injuries. SOURCE: CBS Philadelphia
Insight: Pierce was robbed at gunpoint and also had his car stolen. The car has been recovered and it looks like Pierce was able to walk away injury-free. He'll be a nice handcuff for Ray Rice owners this season.
Description: According to NFL.com, Ravens running back Ray Rice said sharing touches with Bernard Pierce in 2013 won't bother him.
Insight: BaltimoreRavens.com writer Garrett Downing said Sunday that Pierce will push Rice for carries this season if Pierce has a strong training camp. Rice had the edge last season, 257-108. With Pierce looming, fantasy owners have drafted Rice with an ADP of 1.07 in fantasyfootballcalculator.com mock drafts.
Description: Baltimore tight end Ed Dickson, who signed a one-year deal to return to the Ravens, is part of a tag-team tight end situation.
Insight: The Ravens' other tight end, Dennis Pitta, had the better year in 2012-13 (61-669-7) while Dickson posted 21-225-0, but the previous season Dickson was the better pass catcher. Unless one of the pair is sidelined by injury, it's hard to pick which tight end will shine.
Description: Former Broncos defensive end Elvis Dumervil has signed with the Baltimore Ravens, according to the Denver Post. Dumervil agreed to a restructured deal with the Broncos last week but his agent failed to get the paperwork into the league office before the deadline, leaving the Broncos no choice but to cut Dumervil rather than guaranteeing all $12 million of his salary.
Insight: The release counted as a $5 million hit in dead money on Denver's salary cap, making it impossible for the Broncos to offer Dumervil the same restructured contract. Getting Dumervil is the first real offseason win for the defending Super Bowl champions, who have lost seven starters overall.
Description: The Ravens let Bernard Pollard go on Wednesday.
Insight: The veteran safety, well known for his destruction of Patriots' superstars, led the team in tackles last season (98) despite missing three games because of cracked ribs. Joe Flacco's gigantic contract has given the Ravens' very limited financial flexibility so don't be surprised if the team cuts a few more big names in the coming weeks.
