Description: The Royals have placed shortstop Alcides Escobar on the 7-day concussion disabled list.
Insight: Escobar took a pitch in the cheek on Wednesday and hasn't played since then. The results of his concussion test are not back yet, but the club went ahead and put him on the DL anyway. Christian Colon will start for the Royals at second base until Escobar returns.
Description: Royals shortstop Alcides Escobar was not in the lineup on Thursday and is doubtful for Friday's game against Detroit.
Insight: Escobar has a left cheek bruise, which he suffered when he took a pitch in the head on Wednesday. Luckily, it doesn't appear to be too serious. Alex Gordon will likely lead off for Kansas City until Escobar returns.
Description: Nationals shortstop Yunel Escobar was 3-for-5 with three runs in the, 8-2, victory over the Mets on Thursday.
Insight: Escobar had three singles and scored in the fourth, sixth and ninth in his first game back from his hand injury that kept him sidelined on Tuesday and Wednesday. Escobar is hitting .306 with two home runs and nine runs in 72 at-bats this season.
Description: Astros shortstop Jed Lowrie will undergo right thumb surgery on Friday according to Root Sports.
Insight: Lowrie tore a ligament in his thumb on Monday, and he isn't expected to be back before the All-Star break. Too bad because he was hitting .300/.432/.567 with four home runs and 10 RBI before the injury.
Description: Nationals shortstop Yunel Escobar will return to the lineup on Thursday against the Mets.
Insight: Escobar didn't play on Tuesday or Wednesday due to a hand injury he suffered on Monday when Braves shortstop Andrelton Simmons spiked him. Escobar is hitting .284/.351/.418 with two home runs and five RBI this season.
Description: Royals shortstop Alcides Escobar is not in the lineup on Thursday against the Tigers.
Insight: Escobar has a left cheek bruise, which he suffered when he took a pitch in the head on Wednesday. Luckily, it doesn't appear to be too serious. Alex Gordon will lead off for Kansas City on Thursday.
Description: Red Sox left fielder Hanley Ramirez went 1-for-4 with a two-run homer in the, 4-1, victory over the Blue Jays on Wednesday.
Insight: Ramirez hit the two-run bomb in the third to give Boston its first lead of the game. He also had three strikeouts but is now hitting .292 with 10 home runs and 22 RBI in 82 at-bats this season. The power from Ramirez has been a huge surprise considering he only had 13 homers last season.
Description: Royals shortstop Alcides Escobar left Wednesday's game after getting hit in the head with a 96 mph fastball against the Indians according to the Kansas City Star.
Insight: Escobar was able to walk off the field on his own, but he left the game. It will be interesting to see if the Royals respond. Kansas City has already fought two American League clubs this season, which one of them stemmed from an injury.
Description: Blue Jays shortstop Jose Reyes has been placed on the 15-day disabled list with a cracked rib according to Roto World.
Insight: Reyes attempted to play through the injury, but the pain became too much. That could be why he is hitting only .250 in his first 60 at-bats. Ryan Goins will start most of the games at shortstop for Toronto while Reyes is out.
Description: Brewers shortstop Jean Segura has a favorable matchup versus Cardinals starter Lance Lynn on Sunday.
Insight: Segura is 9-for-20 with two extra-base hits in his career against Lynn, so he should remain in all fantasy lineups. Segura has started 2015 very well, hitting .324 with one home run, eight runs and five RBI. Start him as long as he hits first or second in the order.
Description: Rockies shortstop Troy Tulowitzki went 2-for-5 with a home run in the extra-inning loss to the Giants on Saturday.
Insight: Tulowitski hit a solo home run in the third inning to give Colorado a, 2-1, lead, but the Rockies had to comeback to tie the game in the ninth in order to force extra innings. San Francisco, however, won, 5-4, in the 10th. Tulowitzki is hitting .303/.309/.530 with two home runs and nine RBI this season.
Description: Brewers shortstop Jean Segura continued his hot start, going 3-for-4 with a run in the, 5-3, loss to the Cardinals on Saturday.
Insight: Segura had two singles and a double, which was his fourth of the season. He is batting .324 with one home run, five RBI and eight runs. Without Carlos Gomez in the lineup, Segura is leading off. It would be better if Jonathan Lucroy was still hitting behind him, but as long as Segura is hitting at the top of the lineup, he is fantasy relevant.
Description: Pirates shortstop Jordy Mercer was not in the lineup on Wednesday against the Cubs and is questionable for Thursday's game.
Insight: Mercer took a fastball in the ribs from Brewers starter Matt Garza on Sunday and hasn't played since then. Jung Ho Kang is 3-for-6 with four RBI over the past two games so there is no need to rush Mercer back before he's ready.
Description: Cubs shortstop Starlin Castro went 3-for-5 with four RBI including the game-tying hit in the ninth as Chicago rallied to beat Pittsburgh, 9-8.
Insight: Castro hit a chopping ground ball over the third baseman's head with the bases loaded in the ninth to tie the game. He also had an RBI-single in the third and solo home run in the sixth. Castro is hitting .352 with two home runs and 10 RBI this season.
Description: Pirates shortstop Jordy Mercer was not in the lineup on Monday against the Cubs due to a rib injury and will not play Tuesday either.
Insight: Mercer took a fastball in the ribs from Brewers starter Matt Garza on Sunday, so Jung Ho Kang will start at shortstop. Too bad, as Mercer is 5-for-11 with two homers versus Tuesday's starter Travis Wood.
Description: Red Sox left fielder Hanley Ramirez left Monday morning's game due to illness.
Insight: At least the oft-injured star isn't hurt - it's the flu bug. Ramirez is off to a strong start with five homers, 12 RBI and an .895 OPS through the first 11 games. beat writer Gordon Edes expects him to play on Tuesday.
Description: Pirates shortstop Jordy Mercer is not in the lineup on Monday against the Cubs due to a rib injury.
Insight: Mercer took a fastball in the ribs from Brewers starter Matt Garza on Sunday, so Jung Ho Kang will start at shortstop. Mercer had an X-ray, which came back negative, so he is dealing with a bruise.
Description: Royals shortstop Alcides Escobar is questionable for Monday's game against Minnesota due to a sprained left knee.
Insight: Escobar had not missed a game since 2013 and has averaged 158 games per season over the past four years, so missing two games and possible more is obviously a rarity. Christian Colon is his replacement, but has no fantasy value.
Description: Red Sox left fielder Hanley Ramirez hit his fifth home run of the season in the loss to the Orioles on Sunday.
Insight: Ramirez answered Adam Jones' home run in the first with a three-run shot in the bottom of the inning. Those three runs, however, were the only ones Boston would score as they lost to Baltimore, 8-3. Ramirez is hitting .255 but has show surprising power with five home runs and 12 RBI.
