NCAA Game Summary - Tulane at Texas-San Antonio
(Saturday, November 9)
Final Score: Texas-San Antonio 10, Tulane 7
San Antonio, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - A late field goal was the difference in a low-scoring Conference USA matchup as the Texas-San Antonio Roadrunners knocked off the Tulane Green Wave, 10-7, at the Alamodome.
Eric Soza completed 10-of-25 passes for 183 yards for the Roadrunners (5-5, 4-2 C-USA), who won their third straight game and the first-ever meeting between the two schools. Brandon Armstrong rushed for 77 yards and a touchdown on eight carries.
Nick Montana (18-of-33) threw for 199 yards but was also intercepted twice and couldn't help the Green Wave (6-4, 4-2 C-USA) establish a sustained offense. Orleans Darkwa carried the ball a game-high 20 times for 103 yards and a touchdown.
Neither side was able to mount enough offense to put points on the board in the first quarter, and it took until the final minute of the half for a breakthrough.
That opportunity came after UTSA fumbled for the second time in the half, leading to a Tulane drive capped off by a nine-yard rushing touchdown from Darkwa.
With 5:13 left in the third quarter, Armstrong ran 68 yards for a touchdown on the opening play of the Roadrunners' drive, leveling the contest at 7-7.
With time winding down in the fourth quarter, UTSA put together a drive bringing them within field goal range in the final minute of the game. Sean Ianno made the opportunity count with a 34-yarder to seal a narrow Roadrunners victory.
UTSA picked up the win despite running only 53 plays and controlling the action for under 23 minutes.
