NCAA Game Summary - South Alabama at Troy

Troy, AL (SportsNetwork.com) - Corey Robinson threw a pair of touchdowns, including the game-winner with just seven seconds remaining, as the Troy Trojans overcame a late rally by the South Alabama Jaguars to capture a thrilling 34-33 win in a Sun Belt Conference showdown at Veterans Memorial Stadium.
Robinson completed 20-of-26 passes for 210 yards with zero interceptions for Troy (3-3, 1-1 Sun Belt), which remains unbeaten at home this season. Robinson's deciding touchdown found the grasp of Eric Thomas, who finished with five receptions for 129 yards and two scores. Bryan Holmes (six receptions, 93 yards) also had two receiving touchdowns, while Brandon Burks rushed for 100 yards on 17 carries. Deon Anthony saw some time under center as well, going 4-of-8 for 95 yards and two touchdowns while also rushing for 38 yards.
For South Alabama (2-3, 1-1), Ross Metheny was 15-of-21 for 236 yards and a touchdown through the air and rushed for 55 yards and a score as well. Metheny split snaps with Brandon Bridge, who finished 11-of-20 for 235 yards and a touchdown to go with 54 rushing yards. Shavarez Smith (106 yards) and Wes Saxton (95 yards) caught six balls apiece.
Troy got the scoring started on the very first drive of the game. Anthony capped off a 12-play, 73-yard drive with a nine-yard touchdown pass to Holmes to put the Trojans up 7-0.
South Alabama tied the score on the next possession when Cris Dinham rushed in a five-yard touchdown.
Anthony completed another touchdown pass early in the second quarter, this time a 62-yarder to Thomas. Will Scott knocked through a 20-yard field goal a few minutes later to give the Trojans a 17-7 advantage with 6:30 left in the opening half.
The Jaguars set themselves up for a chip shot field goal late in the first half, but Aleem Sunanon missed a 22-yarder, which proved costly in the end.
Troy opened the second half with a five-play, 70-yard drive, ending in a 10- yard touchdown pass from Robinson to Holmes to go up, 24-7. South Alabama responded less than three minutes later when Jay Jones rushed in a score from 10 yards out, although the failed extra point attempt kept the score 24-13 in favor of the Trojans.
South Alabama inched closer early in the fourth quarter when Bridge completed a 56-yard touchdown pass to Bryant Lavender, but the ensuing two-point conversion attempt failed. Will Scott booted through a 23-yard field goal with 5:22 left in the game to give Troy an eight-point lead.
On the Jaguars' ensuing drive, Metheny ran in a touchdown from 16 yards out, but once again they failed to convert the two-point attempt as they remaining down by two, 27-25.
South Alabama forced the Trojans to punt but it was pinned on its own one-yard line with 1:45 to play. That didn't stop the Jaguars, however, as Metheny hooked up with Jereme Jones for a 65-yard touchdown. After finally converting a successful two-pointer, they held a six-point lead.
Troy go the ball back with only 48 seconds left, but Robinson completed 5-of-5 passes on the final drive, capped off by a 20-yard touchdown to Thomas with just seven seconds to go. The successful PAT gave the Trojans the lead and the win.
South Alabama lost despite outgaining Troy on the afternoon, 630 yards to 434.
