NHL Game Summary - Calgary at Phoenix

(Tuesday, January 7th)

Final Score: Phoenix 6, Calgary 0

Glendale, AZ (SportsNetwork.com) - Thomas Greiss made 27 saves to post his first shutout of the season, and six different Phoenix players lit the lamp as the Coyotes whipped Calgary, 6-0, on Tuesday.

Shane Doan, Martin Hanzal, Mikkel Boedker, Lauri Korpikoski, Michael Stone and Rob Klinkhammer scored for the Coyotes, who put a two-game losing skid to rest.

"It was a must-win for us. We needed those points," said Greiss.

Reto Berra was victimized for all six goals on 30 shots for the Flames, who have lost nine of their last 11.

Phoenix picked up scores in a 1:36 span early in the second period to snap a scoreless deadlock and take control of the contest.

Doan picked up his first goal since Dec. 3 at 2:07 of the frame by knocking in a Boedker feed atop the crease, then Hanzal doubled the edge 3:43 in by one- timing the rebound of an errant Radim Vrbata shot.

Boedker made it 3-0 with 7:20 left in the middle frame, slipping a low shot past Berra from the left circle.

Korpikoski converted his own rebound from the left side of the crease at 9:02 of the third period, Stone added another goal with 4:24 left and Klinkhammer posted a power-play score at 18:38 to cap the rout.

Greiss stopped nine shots in the first period and five in the second before finishing up his whitewash with 13 stops in the final 20 minutes.

"They get the two breaks and then Phoenix just sat back and waited," Calgary coach Bob Harley said. "If you look at offense, they have more weapons that we do. Their top three lines can all score."
