Description: Buccaneers running back Doug Martin (knee) is active for Week 4,
Insight: Its the first time since opening day. With Mike Glennon under center, Martin and backup Bobby Rainey should see plenty of work.

9/25/2014 2:10:00 PM
Description: Buccaneers running back Doug Martin (knee) calls himself 100 percent according to Roy Cummings of the Tampa Tribune.
Insight: To say Martin has struggled this season is a huge understatement, but it sounds like he is at least motivated to prove his doubters wrong. It looks like Mike Glennon will get the start at quarterback, which means Martin should be heavily involved. He also has a good matchup against a weak Steelers run defense.

Description: Buccaneers running back Doug Martin (knee) practiced on Monday according to the Tampa Bay Times.
Insight: Martin "looked like he was practicing without limitations." This is good news for the Buccaneers as backup running back Bobby Rainey has lost three fumbles through three games. Tampa Bay faces Pittsburgh in Week 4.

9/18/2014 7:17:00 PM
Description: Buccaneers running back Doug Martin (knee) is inactive for Thursday night's game against the Falcons.

Description: Buccaneers running back Doug Martin (knee) is unlikely to play in Thursday night's game against the Falcons according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.
Insight: Martin will test out his knee pregame before Tampa Bay makes his status official. Some reports already have Bobby Rainey starting against the Falcons on Thursday.

9/14/2014 12:55:00 PM
Description: Buccaneers running back Doug Martin (knee) is not expected to play in Week 2 against the Rams according FOX's Jay Glazer.
Insight: Coach Lovie Smith was adamant all week that Martin was not benched in the Week 1 loss. The coach also reassured the media that the Buccaneers would stay committed to the running game. Apparently it really was an injury keeping him out of the end of the season opener. Bobby Rainey jumps up in value.

9/11/2014 2:17:00 PM
Description: Buccaneers running back Doug Martin (knee) returned to practice on Thursday.
Insight: This isn't a surprise as Buccaneers coach Lovie Smith called the injury minor. The bigger concern, however, is Martin's seemingly short lease with Smith. Plus, at less than 100 percent, Martin is a low-end RB2.

9/10/2014 2:37:00 PM
Description: Buccaneers running back Doug Martin (knee) did not practice Wednesday.
Insight: It's still early in the week, but if he doesn't get on the field tomorrow or Friday then it will be time to look elsewhere for a starter. Bobby Rainey would be the handcuff.

Description: Buccaneers running back Doug Martin suffered a left leg injury in Sunday's season opener.
Insight: Martin had rushed for nine yards on nine carries. We await further news, but if needed, Bobby Rainey would be the handcuff.

8/23/2014 7:01:00 PM
Description: Buccaneers running back Doug Martin had 12 carries for 38 yards with a touchdown and two catches for 27 yards in Saturday's preseason game.
Insight: Head coach Lovie Smith said this week that Martin was going to be his "bell cow" and he was on Saturday. Martin touched the ball 14 times before half and Bobby Rainey was mostly used only on third downs. Through three preseason games, Martin has 100 total yards on 25 touches. He is a lock to be the every-down back. If Martin is there in the third round, which is his currect ADP, take him.

8/22/2014 12:23:00 PM
Description: Coach Lovie Smith called running back Doug Martin his "bell cow".
Insight: It is a little curious why Martin's ADP has slipped to the early third round as Martin is going to be the focal point of a run heavy offense. There are still questions about the Buccaneers offensive line but Martin provides tremendous value at where his ADP is right now.

6/10/2014 8:02:00 PM
Description: According to the Tampa Bay Times, Buccaneers coach Lovie Smith indicated Tuesday that he has a high opinion of running back Doug Martin but understands the need for more than one back.
Insight: Bucs OC Jeff Tedford said last week that he believes in alternating running backs. "I think you have to alternate,'' Tedford said. "Even when we had two 1,000-yard rushers (at California), J.J. Arrington was a 2,000-yard rusher and and we had a couple times guys had 1,000 yards apiece. But I don’t believe that one back can carry the load. It's just too physical. I think you probably need to have two to three guys to bring different things to the table. But I think you at least need to have two to be able to spell them here and there and keep them healthy and that type of thing." Bobby Rainey and Mike James both played well last season when Martin was out with a shoulder injury, and the team drafted receiving back Charles Sims in the third round this year. Martin saw 368 touches as a rookie and was on pace for 371 last year before his season-ending injury. He'll probably be closer to 300 this year.

5/19/2014 4:22:00 PM
Description: Buccaneers choice of West Virginia RB Charles Sims in the third round could take a bite out of starter Doug Martin's fantasy value, particularly his pass-catching numbers.
Insight: Sims is a excellent receiving back, who caught 203 passes for 2,108 and 11 touchdowns, in four years with the Mountaineers.

11/8/2013 4:42:00 PM
Description: The Buccaneers have opted to place Doug Martin (shoulder) on injured reserve.
Insight: That means Mike James will keep the running back job the rest of the season. After an impressive rookie year that led to him getting drafted as a top-five fantasy pick this year, Martin disappointed despite getting a huge workload. He'll finish with 456 rushing yards on 127 carries (3.6 ypc), 66 receiving yards on 12 receptions and one total touchdown in six games.

11/6/2013 5:20:00 PM
Description: Buccaneers halfback Doug Martin (shoulder) didn't practice Wednesday.
Insight: According to ESPN.com, Tampa Bay coach Greg Schiano said Martin will only play again this season if team doctors believe the running back won't be subject to further damage to his injured shoulder. Mike James is a RB2 Monday against Miami after breaking out against Seattle in Week 9.

Insight: A few days ago it looked like Martin would be out for the season. Now he might only miss two weeks. Mike James will get most of the carries out of Tampa Bay's backfield Thursday night against Carolina.

10/23/2013 5:54:00 PM
Description: Buccaneers running back Doug Martin (shoulder) has officially been ruled out for Thursday's game against the Panthers.
Insight: Martin and coach Greg Schiano have said this week that the running back's torn labrum is not a season-ending injury, but he'll at least have to miss one game. Rookie Mike James will start against Carolina and could see 20 carries given Schiano's preference to run a one-back system. James saw 14 carries Sunday at Atlanta even though Martin suffered his injury in the third quarter.

Description: Buccaneers running back Doug Martin reiterated Tuesday what coach Greg Schiano said Monday: that his shoulder injury isn't necessarily season ending. SOURCE: Roy Cummings, Tampa Tribune.
Insight: Martin says the pain in his shoulder has decreased and his range of motion has improved in the last couple of days. Rookie Mike James is expected to start Thursday against the Panthers and should see 20 carries considering Tampa Bay's other options.
