Description: Mariners ace Felix Hernandez will need to bounce back from the worst start of his career in order for Seattle to make the playoffs.
Insight: Seattle won and Oakland lost on Saturday as the Mariners stayed alive in the wild card chase. The Mariners send King Felix to the mound after he gave up eight runs to the Blue Jays on Tuesday. Hernandez told mynorthwest.com that he has put the game behind him and that he is going to "Keep fighting, it won't happen again." We wouldn't count on two rough starts in a row from King Felix.

Description: The Blue Jays tagged Mariners starter Felix Hernandez for eight runs on seven hits in four 2/3 innings on Tuesday.
Insight: It was easily Hernandez's worst start of the season. The Mariners ace gave up fewer runs in all of June and all of July. Despite the loss, Hernandez is still 14-6 with a 2.34 ERA but has not won a game since Sept. 3.

Description: Mariners starter Felix Hernandez out-dueled Jon Lester Wednesday afternoon to earn his 14th win of the season
Insight: The matchup figured to be a low-scoring affair and it was. Hernandez went eight innings yielding just three hits and one run. Fantasy owners can't complain about King Felix's production this season going 14-5 with a 2.18 ERA. He continues to be a top-five fantasy pitcher and now with the improvements to Seattle's lineup can even win his fair share of games.

Description: Mariners starter Felix Hernandez' next start has been pushed back from Wednesday to Friday, according to Bob Dutton of the Tacoma News Tribune.
Insight: He'll start against the Nationals instead of the Rangers. The Mariners will likely start either Erasmo Ramirez or Taijuan Walker on Wednesday. Hernandez suffered a hip injury on Aug. 16 when he was hit by a comebacker and he's lasted less than six innings in two straight starts.

Description: Mariners manager Lloyd McClendon said Felix Hernandez' hip is fine and he'll make his next start Friday against Boston.
Insight: Hernandez took a one-hopper off his hip Saturday against the Tigers and he left after five innings. He had thrown 16 straight starts of seven or more innings and two runs or less allowed, an MLB record.

Description: Seattle ace Felix Hernandez (oblique) struck out 10 over four innings Sunday against the Angels in his first start since Sept. 2.
Insight: Hernandez has been out for three weeks with a strained oblique. He threw 93 pitches in his return to the mound Sunday, which explains why he left after four innings. He'll make one more start this season.

Cold9/5/2013 7:42:00 PM
Description: Seattle righthander Felix Hernandez was supposed to start Sunday versus Tampa Bay but now he's been moved back to Wednesday against Houston.
Insight: Hernandez (12-9, 3.01 ERA) experienced cramping in his lower back Monday versus Kansas City. After a Cy Young caliber first half, Hernandez hasn't been up to snuff since the All-Star break (2-5, 4.20 in nine appearances).

9/2/2013 6:09:00 PM
Description: The Mariners pulled Felix Hernandez from Monday's start in the seventh inning due to a muscle spasm in his "side" area, according to Geoff Baker of the Seattle Times.
Insight: Hernandez gave up six hits and three runs over 6 2/3 innings Monday against the Royals in his first start since allowing eight earned runs against the Rangers. The move to take him out was precautionary and he isn't expected to miss a start.

Cold8/28/2013 10:48:00 PM
Description: The Rangers massacred M's starter Felix Hernandez on Wednesday.
Insight: We haven't seen King Felix get knocked around like this in a while, though he does tend to struggle versus Texas (4-11 career record). In three innings, the former Cy Young winner allowed nine runs (eight earned) on 11 hits. Hernandez is now just 1-4 with a 7.00 ERA in his last five outings.

Hot8/11/2013 7:08:00 PM
Description: Seattle righthander Felix Hernandez was dominant in a win over the Brewers Sunday at Safeco Field.
Insight: In some ways, Hernandez is actually having a better year this year than he did when he won the Cy Young Award in 2010. His ERA is almost identical (2.28 this season, 2.27 in 2010), his strikeouts per nine innings is higher (9.22 this season, 8.36 in 2010) and he's on pace for 17 victories, which is four more than Hernandez recorded in 2010. King Felix will have a chance to add to his Cy Young resume next time out against Texas.

Hot8/1/2013 10:30:00 PM
Description: Mariners ace Felix Hernandez looked to have a win locked down Thursday at Boston -- he threw seven innings, struck out eight, allowed one run on six hits and left with a 7-1 lead -- but the Red Sox scored one in the eighth and six runs in the ninth to shock Seattle.
Insight: King Felix was coming off a start in which he gave up one run and struck out 11 over nine innings but took a no decision. He still hasn't lost since May and is 11-4 with a 2.30 ERA and a 1.06 WHIP, but this one is tough to stomach.

Hot7/14/2013 10:15:00 AM
Description: Mariners ace Felix Hernandez held the Angels scoreless on seven hits over eight innings Saturday night to pick up his 10th win.
Insight: Hernandez won just six games prior to the All-Star break last year. He has gone 10-4 with a 2.53 ERA, a 1.10 WHIP and a 140/26 K/BB in 138 2/3 innings in 2013.
