Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) -
Apparently there really is a Fountain of Youth, and Brett Favre has found it. How else do you explain his performance this year?
Favre is already a 10-time Pro Bowler, yet at the age of 40 and in his 19th NFL season, he is producing numbers that he has never put up before.
His 2009 Quarterback Rating is 112.1, while over the first 18 years of his career the highest rating he ever finished with was 99.5 in 1995. He won the MVP that year. He's averaging 261.3 ypg through the air, a number he has only bettered twice during his career and 44.3 ypg better than last season. He's thrown just three interceptions through 11 games yet during his career has never thrown less than 13 INTs in a full season.
Favre's ranked seventh among QBs in my fantasy league after 11 weeks having earned 164 points and will climb at least two spots after this week's results are included.
Not bad for a player who had a Preseason ADP (Average Draft Position) of 226.8 on August 5th. He was selected behind such "star" quarterbacks as Brady Quinn (152.9), Jason Campbell (166.6), Shaun Hill (200.2), Sage Rosenfels (205.4) and the "immortal" Kellen Clemens (226.7).
How foolish do you feel right now if you drafted Clemens and not Favre in the 19th round?
Favre should have another good week next Sunday with a game against the 27th- ranked passing defense (Arizona), but his playoff schedule is not so kind. He'll face Cincinnati (ranked 19th) at home and Carolina (ranked 5th) on the road in the first two rounds and he'd face Sunday's Bears in a fantasy league championship game, who although he decimated this week, might not be as easy on the road in Chicago. Favre is averaging 21.8 fantasy ppg at home and 12.4 ppg on the road which includes an emotional 30-point effort in his return to Green Bay.
Despite a more difficult schedule down the stretch, Favre has to be a candidate for the "2009 Best Fantasy Bargain Award."
