Houston Rockets Player Notes
For The Last 365 Days

Trevor Ariza, SF7/12/2014 6:07:00 PM
Description: Small forward Trevor Ariza will sign a four-year deal to play for the Houston Rockets.
Insight: Ariza will obviously take the spot of free agent Chandler Parsons. He averaged 14.4 points, 6.2 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 2.3 threes and 1.6 steals per game with the Wizards last season, his best all-around year since 2009-10 with the Rockets.
Chandler Parsons, F7/9/2014 7:36:00 PM
Description: The Mavericks and restricted free agent Chandler Parsons have reached an agreement on a three-year offer sheet worth in excess of $45 million, according to Marc Stein of ESPN.
Insight: The Rockets will have 72 hours to match the offer after Parsons officially signs on Thursday. The Rockets prefer to sign Chris Bosh than to retain Parsons, but a lot depends on what LeBron James decides to do. The Mavs are certainly forcing rival Houston's hand.
Chandler Parsons, F6/4/2014 12:44:00 PM
Description: The Rockets plan to decline their fourth-year option on forward Chandler Parsons' contract, allowing him to become a restricted free agent this summer. SOURCE: Adrian Wojnarowski, Yahoo Sports
Insight: The Rockets now have the option to match an offer sheet from any other team and retain Parsons on a long-term contract. The current option on Parsons' fourth year is worth $960,000 and the team has until June 30 to formally decline the option. Parsons, 25, averaged 16.6 points per game and 5.5 rebounds per game for Houston last season and delivered a slightly-above league average 15.9 PER.
Dwight Howard, C5/3/2014 9:32:00 AM
Description: Rockets center Dwight Howard contributed 26 points, 11 rebounds and two blocked shots Friday in a Game 6 loss to Portland.
Insight: Howard was consistently good all series (26 ppg, 13.7 rpg and 2.8 bpg) but it wasn't enough as the Trail Blazers eliminated Houston in six games. Certainly Howard's poor free shooting played a role in Friday's loss (6-of-11). Portland will face the winner of Sunday's Dallas/San Antonio game in round two.
James Harden, G5/3/2014 9:25:00 AM
Description: Rockets shooting guard James Harden (34 points on 9-of-15 shooting) had his best game of the series Friday in Game 6.
Insight: It's the first time Harden has shot over 50 percent in the series. Unfortunately, it will also be his last game as Houston was eliminated on Damian Lillard's buzzer-beating three-pointer at the end of regulation. Harden will finish the series averaging 26.8 ppg on 37.6 percent shooting.
Chandler Parsons, FHot5/2/2014 11:15:00 AM
Description: Rockets forward Chandler Parsons has been more aggressive at the offensive end in the playoffs and it shows in his numbers.
Insight: Parsons has raised his scoring from 16.6 ppg during the regular season to 20.0 and 5.8 rpg in the playoffs.
Jeremy Lin, GHot5/1/2014 11:08:00 AM
Description: Houston guard Jeremy Lin went off in Game 5 of the series with Portland, shooting 9-for-15 for 21 points, three rebounds, four assists and two steals.
Insight: Lin got plenty of playing time because start Patrick Beverley was dealing with flu-like symptoms that limited him to 21 minutes. It could be a similar situation on Friday.
Patrick Beverley, G4/30/2014 5:52:00 PM
Description: Rockets point guard Patrick Beverley (illness) says he'll play in Game 5 of the Western Conference quarterfinals against the Blazers on Wednesday, according to the Houston Chronicle.
Insight: Beverley attended shootaround in the morning but didn't do much. He's still dealing with a fever but will play with the Rockets facing a do-or-die situation down 3-1.
Patrick Beverley, G4/27/2014 8:28:00 PM
Description: Houston point guard Patrick Beverley (illness) says he'll play in Game 4 of the Western Conference quarterfinals against the Blazers on Sunday night, according to Mark Berman of myfoxhouston.com.
Insight: Beverley has averaged 40.3 minutes, 13 points, 5.7 rebounds and 2.0 threes in the series.
Patrick Beverley, G4/27/2014 3:28:00 PM
Description: Houston point guard Patrick Beverley missed shootaround Sunday because of an illness. SOURCE: Jonathan Feigen, Houston Chronicle
Insight: That puts his status in question for tonight's Game 4. Jeremy Lin (10.7 ppg, 5.0 apg, 4.3 rpg in Games 1-3) would be the logical replacement at point guard should Beverley miss Sunday's game.
Jeremy Lin, G4/23/2014 12:32:00 PM
Description: Houston guard Jeremy Lin has gotten over his illness and should be available to play Wednesday versus Portland. SOURCE: Rockets on Twitter

Omer Asik, C4/16/2014 7:49:00 PM
Description: Rockets center Omer Asik is getting the night off Wednesday versus New Orleans. SOURCE: Craig Ackerman, Rockets play-by-play
Insight: Asik (5.8 ppg, 7.9 rpg) was relevant for two weeks when Dwight Howard was out with an ankle injury but that's already come and gone. He'll play sparingly during the postseason.
Jeremy Lin, G4/16/2014 7:44:00 PM
Description: Houston guard Jeremy Lin won't be active for Wednesday's game against the Pelicans. SOURCE: Craig Ackerman, Rockets play-by-play
Insight: Lin's scoring average is down for the third year in a row. With Patrick Beverley (10.2 ppg, 2.7 apg, 3.5 rpg) getting most of the minutes at point guard, Lin is a pretty unexciting fantasy option.
Chandler Parsons, F4/16/2014 1:47:00 PM
Description: Rockets forward Chandler Parsons will sit out Wednesday's season finale for rest, the team announced via Twitter.
Insight: Parsons raised his scoring from 15.5 ppg last season to 16.6 ppg in 2013-14 and added 5.5 rebounds, 4.0 assists, 1.8 triples and 1.2 steals in 74 games.
James Harden, GHot4/16/2014 1:42:00 PM
Description: Rockets guard James Harden will miss the last game of the regular season Wednesday to rest, the team announced via Twitter.
Insight: Harden followed up his breakout 2012-13 season with a nearly identical 2013-14. He averaged 25.4 points, 6.1 assists, 4.7 rebounds, 2.4 threes and 1.6 steals. Harden produced 28 ppg and 7.3 rpg over his last 29 games.
Chandler Parsons, F4/14/2014 10:21:00 PM

Description: Houston center Dwight Howard had 20 points and 17 rebounds in 31 minutes Monday against the Spurs.
Insight: Howard sat out eight games due to an ankle strain before returning to the lineup Saturday with 13 points and six rebounds in 29 minutes.

Insight: He missed Saturday's game due to minor wrist and hip injuries, which he suffered in a hard fall on Friday.
Chandler Parsons, F4/14/2014 6:25:00 PM
Description: Rockets coach Kevin McHale said forward Chandler Parsons (wrist, hip) will be a "true" game-time decision Monday, according to Jason Friedman of rockets.com.
Insight: He participated in the shootaround and said he would try to play, but he might have to miss his second straight game.
Chandler Parsons, F4/14/2014 1:59:00 PM
Description: Rockets forward Chandler Parsons sat out Saturday, but is probable for Monday against San Antonio.
Insight: He's battling minor wrist and hip injuries, but made it through the morning shootaround and will "give it a go," according to Jennifer Dial Creech of the Houston Chronicle.

Insight: How's that for consistency? Harden has caught fire in the second half, delivering 28.1 ppg in his last 27 outings. He's also improved his assist rate from 5.3 apg in the first half to 7.4 since the break.
Francisco Garcia, G/F4/12/2014 7:11:00 PM
Description: Rockets swingman Francisco Garcia will have the night off Saturday against the Pelicans. SOURCE: Rockets on Twitter
Insight: He's out with a back injury. Garcia (5.8 ppg) has been held to single-digit points in each of his last three games. He's not in the fantasy conversation.

Description: Rockets guard Patrick Beverley will give it a go Saturday versus the Pelicans. SOURCE: Jenny Dial Creech, Houston Chronicle
Insight: A torn meniscus sidelined him for a little over two weeks. Jeremy Lin (12.6 ppg, 4.2 apg) won't see as many minutes at point guard now that Beverley is back.
Dwight Howard, C4/12/2014 6:27:00 PM
Description: Houston center Dwight Howard will be active for Saturday's game against New Orleans. SOURCE: Jenny Dial Creech, Houston Chronicle
Insight: It's the first time he's played since March 27th. The Rockets are also getting Patrick Beverley back from a torn meniscus. Head coach Kevin McHale hinted that he would be cautious with both players in their first games back so don't expect Howard (18.5 ppg, 12.3 rpg) or Beverley (9.9 ppg) to see their usual minutes.
Dwight Howard, C4/12/2014 11:30:00 AM
Description: Houston center Dwight Howard (ankle) has missed the past eight games and is questionable for Saturday's game against New Orleans.
Insight: Howard has a right ankle strain and hasn't been available since March 27. Omer Asik has been a solid replacement and fantasy worthy averaging 11.1 ppg and 15.3 rebounds over the past six contests.

Description: Rockets point guard Patrick Beverley (knee) will not play Friday against the Timberwolves, according to Jason Friedman of rockets.com.

Description: Rockets point guard Patrick Beverley (knee) will sit out Wednesday, according to Jonathan Feigen of the Houston Chronicle.

Description: Houston shooting guard James Harden contributed 33 points and 12 assists Tuesday in a win against the Lakers.
Insight: And that came in only 32 minutes of action. The Rockets can still catch the Clippers for the No. 3 seed so they'll have plenty to play for Wednesday night at Denver.

Description: Houston forward Terrence Jones delivered 33 points Tuesday in a 145-130 victory over the Lakers.

He's averaged 12.6 ppg on 57.5 percent shooting since the All-Star break. With Dwight Howard out of the lineup, Jones and Omer Asik are both must-starts.

Description: Rockets center Dwight Howard (ankle) is expected to miss Tuesday's game against the LA Lakers.
Insight: So much for Howard visiting Los Angeles and all the fun that could come from that meeting. Howard's goal is to be ready for playoff time. Omer Asik has grabbed 84 rebounds over the past five games (16.8 rpg). Asik posted 18 points and 23 boards last time out.
Omer Asik, CHot4/6/2014 9:52:00 PM

Insight: Asik has been marvelous over the last five games, averaging 12.0 ppg, 16.8 rpg and 1.2 bpg during that stretch. His Achilles heel continues to be poor free throw shooting (59.3 percent for the season) but that's easy to overlook when you're getting a double-double every night.
Dwight Howard, C4/5/2014 1:35:00 PM
Description: Rockets center Dwight Howard (ankle) missed Friday's game against OKC and is expected to miss Sunday's game against Denver.
Insight: Howard had his ankle drained recently and will need more time to heal. The Rockets know its more important that Howard is healthy for playoff time. Omer Asik has grabbed 61 rebounds over the past four games (15.2 rpg).

James Harden, GHot2/26/2014 9:08:00 AM
Description: Houston shooting guard James Harden delivered a season-high 43 points Tuesday in a win at Sacramento.
Insight: Harden probably could have put up 50 if he had played the fourth quarter. As usual, the bearded one made his living at the line, drilling 15-of-16 from the charity stripe. He was also incredibly effective from deep, knocking in six of his nine three-point attempts. Harden has averaged 33.5 ppg in four games since the All-Star break.

Asik then sat out for two months with a knee injury and has played just 32 minutes total in the last three games. The Rockets have no place for him with Dwight Howard starting at center, but Asik did average 10.1 points, 11.7 rebounds and 1.1 blocks last season and would see renewed fantasy value with a trade.
Dwight Howard, CHot2/12/2014 10:54:00 PM

Description: Houston center Omer Asik is probable for Saturday's game in Milwaukee. SOURCE: Jason Friedman, Rockets.com
Insight: Asik is finally ready to see the court again after missing two months with a mysterious knee injury. If the Rockets want to showcase him for a possible trade (the deadline is February 20th), it's possible they could give Asik a heavy workload in his return. If he does remain in Houston past the deadline, it's unlikely Asik (4.4 ppg, 6.8 rpg) will be a factor down the stretch.
Dwight Howard, CHot2/5/2014 11:04:00 PM
Description: Rockets big man Dwight Howard was outstanding Wednesday in a win over Phoenix.
Insight: Howard collected 34 points on 11-of-17 shooting. Though he did commit five turnovers, Howard balanced it out with 14 rebounds, three steals and two blocked shots. Description: Rockets center Omer Asik (knee, thigh) participated in shootaround Wednesday (non-contact) and could be cleared in the next 7-10 days, according to the Houston Chronicle.

Omer Asik, C2/4/2014 7:33:00 PM
Description: Rockets center Omer Asik remains without a timetable for his knee injury. SOURCE: Jonathan Feigen, Houston Chronicle

Insight: Howard finished the night with 23 points and 16 boards. Two of the 23 came on an emphatic dunk that essentially sealed the win with just over a minute remaining. He struggled at the line (13-for-25) and committed six turnovers but when the Rockets needed Howard to step up, he was up to the task. Houston is 3-0 against the Spurs this season. It's the first time the Rockets have beaten San Antonio three times in the regular season since Tim Duncan was drafted in 1997.

James Harden, G1/28/2014 6:53:00 PM

Insight: Jones won't miss much time with the injury so there isn't an urgent need to add Casspi but keep him in mind if Jones suffers another injury. Donatas Motiejunas started in Jones' place but only played 22 minutes. The Rockets went small often with Chandler Parsons at the four and Casspi at the three.

Description: Cbssports.com NBA Insider Ken Berger reports that the Rockets expect to keep center Omer Asik past the trade deadline on Feb. 20.
Insight: Houston tried to trade Asik last month but didn't get any offers it liked. He hasn't played for the team since Dec. 2 due to dissatisfaction with his role as well as swelling in his knee. If he stays with the Rockets, he's unlikely to carry fantasy value as a backup center. The team already tried playing Asik and Dwight Howard together and it didn't work.

Insight: Jones scored 21 points and added 14 rebounds and three blocks. The Rockets are a tough team with Dwight Howard, James Harden and Jeremy Lin, but if they get more games like this from Jones they will be almost impossible to beat. Description: Rockets point guard Patrick Beverley played 42 minutes and had 12 points, eight rebounds, two assists, two steals and two threes Wednesday against the Suns.
Insight: Beverley has hit exactly 4-of-10 from the field in each of his last three games. He's only averaging 9.5 points, 4.1 rebounds and 2.4 assists this season despite playing close to 32 minutes per game. That's not enough production from one of your fantasy point guards.

Chandler Parsons, F12/2/2013 2:04:00 PM
Description: Rockets small forward Chandler Parsons is still dealing with back spasms and is doubtful for Monday's game against Utah.
Insight: Parsons' back was "really bothering him" during Saturday's game at San Antonio, coach Kevin McHale said, but it didn't stop him from scoring 25 points in 40-plus minutes. Parsons is averaging 17.2 points, 5.1 rebounds, 3.9 assists, 1.1 steals, 0.6 blocks and 1.7 threes this season, so it would be a tough blow for fantasy owners if he's out for any length of time.

Description: Houston guard Jeremy Lin suffered a sprained right knee in Wednesday's game and is expected to miss up to two weeks.

James Harden, G11/29/2013 11:32:00 AM
Description: Rockets guard James Harden (foot) missed Wednesday's game, his third consecutive on the sidelines.
Insight: Harden is expected to be back Friday against the Nets, but we will know more after the shootaround. He's a must start if in the lineup (24.2 ppg, 4.8 rpg, 5.4 apg, 1.8 spg, 2.1 threes per contest).

Insight: Brooks shot an incredible 10-of-14 from the field including 6-of-7 from downtown Saturday night adding four rebounds and five assists in 25 minutes. We could see a repeat on Monday night in Memphis.
James Harden, G11/25/2013 10:15:00 AM

Description: Houston shooting guard James Harden won't be on the floor Saturday against Minnesota. He's also been ruled out for Monday's contest at Memphis. SOURCE: ESPN

Description: Rockets small forward Chandler Parsons has scored at least 20 points in five of the last seven games.

Insight: Jones has produced 12 points, 10 rebounds and 2.4 blocks per game since he joined the rotation five games ago. He's started the last four and should be added in all fantasy leagues.

Description: Rockets center Omer Asik will eventually be traded, but for now he's back at practice. SOURCE: Mark Berman, Fox 26
Insight: Asik was moved to the bench Wednesday in favor of Terrence Jones and then taken out of the rotation entirely after requesting a trade on Thursday. He's averaging 21 minutes, 5.0 points, 7.2 rebounds and 0.6 blocks this season one year after starting all 82 games and averaging a double-double.

Terrence Jones, F11/16/2013 10:48:00 PM
Description: New Rockets starting power forward Terrence Jones had 14 points, 12 rebounds, one steal, three blocks and one three Saturday against Denver.
Insight: Jones replaced Omer Asik in the starting lineup on Nov. 13 but has actually played at least 31:45 in four straight games. Asik has been removed from the rotation after requesting a trade this week, so Jones should continue to see consistent minutes next to Dwight Howard and is a must-add in all leagues. He's averaging 9.3 points, 10.3 rebounds and 2.5 blocks the last four games.
Omer Asik, C11/16/2013 6:49:00 PM

Greg Smith, C11/14/2013 9:53:00 PM
Description: TNT's Rachel Nichols reports that Greg Smith's X-rays came back negative. The team believes he suffered an LCL sprain in his right knee, though he'll need an MRI to confirm that diagnosis.
Insight: It sounds like the Rockets were able to dodge a bullet. An LCL sprain is still a significant injury but with the way Smith went down in the first quarter, it could have been a lot worse. Consider him day-to-day.
Greg Smith, C11/14/2013 9:03:00 PM
Description: Houston C/F Greg Smith will miss the rest of the game after suffering an injury to his right leg Thursday against the Knicks.

Omer Asik, C11/14/2013 8:23:00 PM
Description: Omer Asik wants out of Houston. The Rockets center has requested a trade. SOURCE: Houston Chronicle
Insight: We've seen this before. Asik pouted when the Rockets first signed Dwight Howard and now he's doing it again. The Rockets experimented earlier in the year by playing him alongside Howard but they seem to be getting away from that now. For what it's worth, Asik is averaging 5.0 ppg and 7.2 rpg this season.

James Harden, G11/14/2013 10:47:00 AM
Description: Houston shooting guard James Harden sat out Wednesday's game against the Sixers and is questionable for Thursday's game against New York.
Insight: He's dealing with a foot injury. Jeremy Lin will pick up the start if Harden can't play and he was huge against Philadelphia with 34 points, five rebounds, and 12 assists. Those totals would drop significantly if Harden plays.
Jeremy Lin, GHot11/13/2013 10:36:00 PM
Description: Getting the start at shooting guard, Jeremy Lin (34 points, 12 assists, five rebounds, 9-of-15 from three-point range) turned in a monster effort Wednesday against the Sixers.
Insight: Is this Linsanity Part II? The Rockets guard has been blowing up this season. In nine games (five starts), Lin is averaging 18.1 ppg while shooting an absurd 54.2 percent from the floor. Lin, a 34 percent shooter from downtown in his career, is hitting a blistering 51.4 percent of his three-pointers this season. Get him into your fantasy lineup, ASAP.
Dwight Howard, C11/13/2013 10:31:00 PM
Description: Rockets F/C Dwight Howard posted 23 points, 15 boards, six blocks, two steals and six assists in Wednesday's overtime loss in Philadelphia.
Insight: He only committed two turnovers. Howard seemed to benefit from Omer Asik coming off the bench (just four minutes of action on Wednesday). Asik had started alongside Howard in the team's previous eight contests.

Description: Rockets small forward Chandler Parsons (back) will be a game-time decision Wednesday.

Patrick Beverley, G11/13/2013 12:59:00 PM
Description: Rockets point guard Patrick Beverley will be a game-time decision Wednesday due to an illness.
Insight: Beverley caught whatever is going around the Rockets locker room. Jeremy Lin played 46 minutes off the bench and scored 31 points Monday in a double-overtime win over Toronto, a game in which Beverley saw 24 minutes and shot 0-5 from the field (0-4 3PT). Lin would play a ton of minutes again if Beverley misses Wednesday's game.

Description: Rockets SG James Harden may sit out one of the team's back-to-backs this week. SOURCE: Houston Chronicle
Insight: Harden is dealing with a painful foot injury and hasn't looked like himself over the last few games. Houston's slate this week includes games against Philadelphia, New York and Denver. Francisco Garcia would slot in at shooting guard if Harden can't go.
Francisco Garcia, G/F11/12/2013 6:13:00 PM
Description: Houston G/F Francisco Garcia (flu) missed Monday's game and didn't practice Tuesday but he hopes to be available for Wednesday's game, according to Mark Berman of myfoxhouston.com.
Insight: A bug is going around Houston's locker room. Garcia has made 2.0 threes per game this season but he doesn't have much fantasy value otherwise. He's splitting swingman minutes with Omri Casspi behind two players who play big minutes, James Harden and Chandler Parsons.
Francisco Garcia, G/F11/11/2013 6:23:00 PM
Description: Houston G/F Francisco Garcia will be a game-time decision for Monday's game due to flu-like symptoms.

Description: Houston center Dwight Howard is one of a number of Rockets players battling flu-like symptoms.
Insight: Howard, James Harden and Jeremy Lin are among those suffering. from illness. They are still likely to play, but obviously not at 100 percent.
James Harden, G11/10/2013 2:05:00 PM
Description: James Harden said after Saturday's loss to the Clippers that his foot injury is making it hard for him to move. SOURCE: NBA.com
Insight: It doesn't sound like Harden is considering sitting out, though after watching him struggle on Saturday, taking a breather for two or three games might be his best course of action. Harden's biggest fantasy asset may be his ability to get to the free throw line. If he can't do that (just three attempts on Saturday), his fantasy value could take a big hit.
James Harden, G11/10/2013 10:41:00 AM
Description: Rockets guard James Harden looked hobbled in Saturday's loss to L.A.
Insight: Harden tried to play through a foot injury but the result was his worst game of the season. In 38 minutes, Harden made just 4-of-15 field goals for 12 points. His three free throw attempts (he made all three) were a season-low. Harden seems likely to play Monday against the Raptors though he obviously won't be at 100 percent.

Patrick Beverley, G11/7/2013 11:12:00 AM
Description: Rockets point guard Patrick Beverley played Tuesday against Portland and got through the game without incident.
Insight: Beverley was expected to miss 10-14 days with the injury, but played 28 minutes Tuesday, scoring 12 points with four rebounds and one assist. Beverley is the point guard in name only as James Harden controls the Houston offense.
Dwight Howard, C11/6/2013 9:33:00 AM
Description: Houston center Dwight Howard went off for a season-high 29 points Tuesday in a 116-101 victory over the Trail Blazers.
Insight: He committed six turnovers but other than that it was an excellent game for the Rockets' franchise center. D12 had 13 boards and shot 10-of-13 from the field. Even his free throw shooting was up to par (9-of-12). Houston's next game is Thursday against the Lakers.
James Harden, G11/6/2013 9:29:00 AM
Description: Houston guard James Harden netted 33 points Tuesday in a lopsided win over Portland.
Insight: He knocked down 11 of his 18 field goals while hitting 9-of-10 from the free throw line. For good measure, he added seven rebounds and three assists. The eight turnovers sting a little but Harden should still be a top-ten fantasy consideration going forward.

Description: Rockets point guard Patrick Beverley (abdomen) says he will play Tuesday against Portland, according to Jonathan Feigen of the Houston Chronicle.

Francisco Garcia, G/F10/30/2013 10:41:00 PM
Description: Houston G/F Francisco Garcia drained five threes and scored 19 points in 30 minutes Wednesday night.
Insight: Carlos Delfino averaged 25 minutes, 10.6 points, 3.3 rebounds and 2.4 threes as Houston's backup swingman last season, numbers Garcia should be able to match as he assumes that role this year.
Dwight Howard, C10/30/2013 10:37:00 PM
Description: Dwight Howard's Rockets debut was a good one as he dominated the Bobcats for 17 points, 26 rebounds and two blocks.
Insight: Howard isn't likely to get back to scoring 20 ppg with James Harden around, but he's another year removed from back surgery and is over the torn shoulder that plagued him last season, so he should increase his rebounding average from the 12.4 per game he averaged last season. He was over 14.0 per game the two years before that.

Description: Jeremy Lin won't start the Rockets' opener Wednesday against the Bobcats. SOURCE: Patrick Harrel, SB Nation
Insight: Instead, Patrick Beverley will get the nod at point guard with Lin coming off the bench. The Rockets paid good money for Lin last offseason ($25 million over three years) so it's a bit of a surprise to see him being wasted on the bench. Until the Rockets figure out a role for him, it's unclear what his fantasy value will be.
Omer Asik, C10/29/2013 5:51:00 PM
Description: Rockets center Omer Asik will start the season opener Wednesday against the Bobcats, according to Jonathan Feigen of the Houston Chronicle.
Insight: Rockets coach Kevin McHale is going with Patrick Beverley, James Harden, Chandler Parsons, Dwight Howard and Asik as his starting five to begin the season. Description: Rockets big man Marcus Camby is expected to be out at least two weeks with a torn plantar fascia. SOURCE: Houston Chronicle
Insight: Camby is hoping to avoid surgery. For a frame of reference, a similar injury caused Angels slugger Albert Pujols to miss the final two months of the 2013 MLB season. Camby is a distant third on Houston's center depth chart behind starter Dwight Howard and backup Omer Asik.
Omer Asik, C9/30/2013 10:36:00 PM
Description: Rockets center Omer Asik suffered a strained calf at practice on Sunday. SOURCE: Jonathan Feigen, Houston Chronicle
Insight: It's something he should be over by the time the regular season starts up at the end of next month. Asik won't carry nearly as much fantasy importance this year with Dwight Howard occupying the low post in Houston.
Ronnie Brewer, F8/19/2013 9:45:00 PM
Description: Ronnie Brewer signed a two-year deal with Houston on Monday. SOURCE: Marc Stein, ESPN
Insight: Brewer hasn't averaged double-digit points since 2008-09. He's a fantasy non-factor.
Dwight Howard, C8/18/2013 10:42:00 AM
Description: According to GM Daryl Morey, the Rockets are going to try Dwight Howard out at power forward during training camp. SOURCE: Daryl Morey's Reddit account
Insight: The hope is that moving Howard to the four would allow Omer Asik to see more minutes at center. This isn't likely to work in the long run so fantasy owners should still expect Howard to see most of the playing time at center with Asik coming off the bench.
