Canada rallies in 3rd, beats Slovenia in OT

Stockholm, Sweden (Sports Network) - Steven Stamkos scored his second goal 3:36 into overtime, giving a sloppy Canada team a 4-3 come-from-behind victory over winless Slovenia Monday at the 2013 World Hockey Championship.

Canada erased a 2-0 deficit on second-period goals by Matt Duchene and Stamkos that were separated by just 50 seconds. Slovenia went back in front, however, before the second intermission.

The Canadians tied things up at the 7:09 mark of the third period on Brenden Dillon's tally, then Stamkos won the game in the extra session off a feed from Brian Campbell.

Canada wrapped up preliminary round play in Group S with 18 points, one more than Switzerland for the top spot in the standings. The Swiss play their final round-robin game against Belarus on Tuesday.

Belarus dropped a 3-2 decision to Denmark earlier Monday.

In Helsinki, eight different players scored for Russia in an 8-4 rout of Austria.

The defending champs will be seeded no lower than third for the quarterfinals after closing out the preliminary round in Group H with 15 points. Team USA, which lost to Russia, has the same amount of points but one game remaining. Finland, which also has one game left to play, has one fewer point than the Russians and Americans.

In other Group H action, Latvia topped France by a 3-1 score.
