Insight: Atkins has made himself into one of the most dominent defensive tackles in the league. He amassed 12.5 sacks and 54 tackles last season and had six sacks this season before his injury. The Bengals' defense is reeling from the loss of Atkins, Leon Hall and Taylor Mays all in the last week.

Description: Bengals defensive tackle Geno Atkins has agreed to a five-year, $55 million contract extension. SOURCE: Joe Reedy, Cincinnati Enquirer
Insight: It's the second-largest contract for a defensive tackle in NFL history. The raise is a well-deserved one as Atkins (12.5 sacks in 2012) was half a sack away from tying Eddie Edwards' team record last season. He's been named an All-Pro twice in the last three seasons.

Description: The Bengals signed fourth-round rookie DL Geno Atkins to a four-year deal that includes a $472,000 signing bonus. SOURCE: TWITTER
Insight: Atkins is athletic and highly productive, but lost his starting job in college because of motivational problems. He may not be anything more than a part-time pass rusher at the pro level.
