Jones, Rodgers-Cromartie, Succop named AFC's best

New York, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Marvin Jones, Denver Broncos cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie and Kansas City kicker Ryan Succop were selected as the AFC's top players for Week 8 of the NFL season.

Jones earned the offensive award for the first time after catching eight passes for 122 yards with a team-record four touchdowns in a 49-9 rout of the New York Jets. The four TD catches were the most in the NFL since Nov. 18, 2007 when Randy Moss and Terrell Owens each had four. He is the first non- quarterback winner of the AFC's offensive award this year.

Rodgers-Cromartie picked up the defensive honor thanks to five tackles and a 75-yard interception return for a touchdown in a 45-21 victory over Washington. It was his fifth career interception return for a score.

Succop claimed the special teams nod with three field goals in a 23-17 win over Cleveland to keep the Chiefs unbeaten. He hit two from at least 40 yards.

Other offensive nominees included Cincinnati's Andy Dalton, the Week 6 top offensive player who threw for 325 yards with five touchdowns in the lopsided win over the Jets; Denver quarterback Peyton Manning, already a two-time winner this season who threw for 354 yards with four touchdowns and three interceptions against the Redskins; and Oakland's Terrelle Pryor, who ran for 106 yards with a 93-yard touchdown in a 21-18 victory over Pittsburgh.

Defensive consideration went to Kansas City linebacker Derrick Johnson, who had 12 tackles against the Browns, and New England linebacker Dont'a Hightower, who had 10 tackles and a sack in a 27-17 victory over Miami.

New England kicker Stephen Gostkowski was also nominated for the special teams award after connecting on two field goals, including the go-ahead boot in the third quarter against the Dolphins.
