Cardinals' Molina captures sixth Gold Glove

New York, NY ( - Yadier Molina was awarded a Gold Glove for the sixth consecutive season on Tuesday.

The Cardinals catcher headlined the top fielders at each position in the National League, while his teammate, Adam Wainwright, edged out all Senior Circuit pitchers for the award.

Reds second baseman Brandon Phillips was honored for the fourth time and was the only NL infielder to have previously won the award. Diamondbacks first baseman Paul Goldschmidt, Braves shortstop Andrelton Simmons and Rockies third baseman Nolan Arenado were all first-time winners.

Brewers center fielder Carlos Gomez captured his first Gold Glove, Diamondbacks right fielder Gerardo Parra took home his second and Rockies left fielder Carlos Gonzalez now has three to his name.

The American League was dominated by Orioles and Royals, with each team having three winners. Kansas City first baseman Eric Hosmer and catcher Salvador Perez each collected their first and left fielder Alex Gordon seized the honor for the third straight year.

Baltimore's Manny Machado edged out Adrian Beltre at third base, shortstop J.J. Hardy won for the second straight year and center fielder Adam Jones won for the third time.

The Red Sox had two honored in second baseman Dustin Pedroia and right fielder Shane Victorino, who won their third and fourth, respectively.

Blue Jays pitcher R.A. Dickey earned his first Gold Glove.

This was the first year a sabermetric component was used in voting for the best fielder's in baseball.
