Reds sign Broxton to 3-year deal Cincinnati, OH (Sports Network) - The Cincinnati Reds signed closer Jonathan Broxton to a three-year contract Wednesday. Financial details were not disclosed, but the pact is reported to be worth $21 million with a $9 million club option and a limited no-trade clause. If Broxton is traded during the contract, the deal will become worth $22 million with a mutual option. Broxton was traded to the Reds from the Kansas City Royals at the trade deadline last season and he pitched to a 3-3 record with a 2.82 ERA and four saves in 25 appearances with the club. An eight-year veteran with the Dodgers, Royals and Reds, the 28-year-old righty has a 29-25 career record with a 3.10 earned run average and 111 saves over 446 games. Aroldis Chapman, who recorded 38 saves for Cincinnati in 43 opportunities last season, is expected to make a move into the starting rotation with Broxton taking over his closing duties. Cincinnati also signed pitcher Todd Redmond to a one-year contract and infielders Emmanuel Burriss and Mike Hessman to minor league contracts Wednesday. 11/28 09:45:39 ET Powered by The Sports Network. |
