Pitching help might still be available

Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) - It's mid-August and you're still in the "Chase" for the title. But your pitching staff needs a boost either because of injury or slump.

Well...all is not lost. There are a few names out there who might be available in your league and help put you over the top.

Gil Meche, Kansas City - In my league he is still available. Though his season-long numbers are pedestrian (10-9, 4.24 ERA, 1.34 WHIP), he has been good of late. He is 4-0 since July 19th with a respectable 2.48 ERA and 1.13 WHIP.

Jeremy Guthrie, Baltimore - Guthrie has given up two earned runs or less in his last four outings and is 3-1 over the stretch. Overall he is 9-8 with a 3.26 ERA and 1.17 WHIP.

Paul Byrd, Boston - It's not a coincidence that Boston picked him up. While his season numbers are just 7-10 with a 4.53 ERA and 1.30 WHIP, his last four starts have been stellar. Over that time he is 4-0 with a 1.24 ERA and a 1.10 WHIP. With the Red Sox offense to support him, he should make winning a regular habit.

Randy Johnson, Arizona - If no one has picked him up yet, you should go ahead and put him on your roster. He has four wins and an ERA of 1.08 and a WHIP of 0.90. he has also struck out six-or-more in his last three outings.
