You should expect Lance Berkman to continue to make pitchers' lives miserable.
Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) -
In April, Lance Berkman was swinging like a "rusty gate" and had a batting average (.167) to the south of the infamous "Mendoza Line." He could probably have been obtained in a trade for a song and a dance from his disappointed fantasy owners.
In May, the Houston Astros first baseman began to show some life - batting .286 with five HRs, 19 RBIs and an OPS of .918.
We just finished the month of June and it's official - Berkman is back!
The swing is smooth and he hit seven HRs, knocked in another 18 runs with a batting average of .318 and an OPS of 1.061. Berkman also stole two bases during the last week, a feature that has been missing from his repertoire for most of the season.
That's what fantasy owners expected from "Big Puma" as a second-round selection (Preseason Average Draft Position was 18).
The good news is that over his career, Berkman has averaged .300-or-more in two of the final three months, so you should expect him to continue to make pitchers' lives miserable. He'll likely not keep the OPS over 1.000, but historically it will still be a respectable number (.942 after the All-Star break).
You probably can't afford to trade for him now, as the price would be prohibitive, but if you picked him up in April or May, you should continue to reap the rewards of your wisdom.
