Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) -
Looking at the box score from Saturday's New York Yankees-Boston Red Sox matchup should make any fantasy owner salivate -- unless you own Freddy Garcia or any member of the Red Sox bullpen.
The two juggernauts combined for 24 runs on 33 hits in a nine-inning assault that likely caused Major League Baseball to have to heighten its production of baseballs.
Managers Bobby Valentine and Joe Girardi wore out the infield grass on the path between the dugout and the mound as the game saw 13 pitchers used.
The game looked as though it would be a one-sided blowout in favor of Boston, as the Red Sox led 9-0 after the first five innings. Felix Doubrant seemed like a lock for his first win of the season.
But Mark Teixeira had other plans.
The Yankees first baseman launched a seemingly harmless solo homer into the first row of the seats above the Green Monster.
The jack turned out to be quite harmful for the Red Sox, blowing open the flood gates and making sure they wouldn't be closed for the rest of the day.
Vincente Padilla took over for Doubrant in the top of the seventh and provided anything but relief. After giving up two hits and walking Derek Jeter, Padilla served up a grand slam to Nick Swisher and then gave up a double to Robinson Cano before being mercifully removed.
As awful as Padilla was, he wasn't even the worst Boston reliever of the day. That dishonor goes to Alfredo Aceves.
After Matt Albers gave up Teixeira's second homer of the day in the seventh, Aceves relieved Franklin Morales in the eighth with a runner on first and the Red Sox somehow still holding a one-run lead.
That lead didn't last long, as Aceves proceeded to give up five runs on two hits and four walks without getting an out.
Though the Saturday matinee turned into a nightmare for Boston, the game yielded plenty of fantasy stars across the board.
For New York:
Mark Teixeira - 3-for-6, 3 R, 2 HRs, 1 2B, 6 RBIs
Nick Swisher - 3-for-6, 2 R, 1 HR, 1 2B, 6 RBIs
Derek Jeter - 3-for-4, 2 R, 2 BB, 1 RBI
Eduardo Nunez - 3-for-4, 2 R, 1 BB, 1 SB
Russell Martin - 2-for-5, 2 R, 1 2B, 2 RBIs
Robinson Cano - 1-for-4, 2 R, 2 BB
David Ortiz - 4-for-4, 1 R, 1 2B, 1 BB, 1 RBI
Jarrod Saltalamacchia - 4-for-5, 1 R, 2 2B
Cody Ross - 2-for-5, 2 R, 1 HR, 2 RBIs
Mike Aviles - 2-for-5, 1 R, 2 RBIs, 1 SB
Dustin Pedroia - 2-for-5, 1 RBI
Adrian Gonzalez - 1-for-5, 1 R, 1 2B, 1 RBI
Ryan Sweeney - 1-for-4, 1 R, 1 2B, 1 RBI
Even 0-for-5 days weren't completely useless. Alex Rodriguez threw up the goose egg in the hit column, but he still managed to walk once and score two runs.
And though Doubront failed to get the win, he still turned in a solid line, going six innings and giving up one run on four hits and three walks with seven strikeouts.
The biggest losers of the day were Garcia (1.2 IP, 7 H, 5 ER), Aceves and Kevin Youkilis owners.
Youkilis left the game in the bottom of the fourth with a left quad contusion after he was hit by a David Phelps fastball his previous at-bat.
The struggling third baseman, who is batting .190 on the year, completely missed out on the offensive explosion, finishing 0-for-1 with one run scored.
If you were lucky enough to have Teixeira, Swisher or both on Saturday, they likely swung the week in your favor in head-to-head leagues and allowed you to gain serious ground in the home run, RBI, and batting average categories in roto leagues.
