Houston Texans Player Notes
For The Last 365 Days

DeAndre Hopkins, WR4/26/2013 3:28:00 PM
Description: With Kevin Walter agreeing to a deal in the offseason with Tennessee, the Texans used their first-round pick (27th overall) to select Clemson standout DeAndre Hopkins.
Insight: Hopkins had a huge season at Clemson, putting up 82 receptions for 1,405 yards and 18 touchdowns. He's not super fast, but a good route runner who can separate from the defender. He's also a solid blocker for a receiver, which Arian Foster will appreciate. Hopkins should end up being a low-end WR3 by the end of his rookie season.
Ed Reed, S3/20/2013 7:18:00 PM
Description: Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports is reporting that former Ravens safety Ed Reed has inked a two-year contract with Houston.
Insight: The Ravens have now lost seven starters from last season's Super Bowl-winning squad. La Canfora speculates that Reed could earn an annual salary of close to $6 million. Reed managed 58 tackles and four picks last season.
Kevin Walter, WR3/12/2013 3:36:00 PM
Description: The Texans have released receiver Kevin Walter.
Insight: Walter has served as Houston's No. 2 receiver since 2006 but he has been on the decline over the past four seasons after putting up a career-high 899 yards and eight touchdowns in 2008-09. He had just 518 yards and two scores in 2012.
J.J. Watt, DE2/2/2013 8:44:00 PM
Description: Texans defensive end J.J. Watt was honored as the NFL's Defensive Player of the Year on Saturday.
Insight: This one was a no-brainer. Watt led the league with 20.5 sacks while also recording 81 tackles and four forced fumbles. His combination of size, speed and anticipation make him a nightmare for opposing QBs. Don't be surprised if Watt wins this award again next season.
Arian Foster, RB1/31/2013 8:56:00 PM
Description: NFL Network's Alex Flanagan expects Houston running back Arian Foster to undergo a minor heart operation within the next month.
Insight: Foster struggled with an irregular heartbeat near the end of the regular season but rebounded nicely by playing well in the Texans' two playoff games (327 total yards, three touchdowns). He should be fine by the start of training camp.
Vonta Leach, FB1/18/2013 10:02:00 AM
Description: Fullback Vonta Leach is probable for the AFC Championship on Sunday against New England with knee and ankle problems.
Insight: Leach has no fantasy value himself, but his presence in the lineup makes the Ravens running game much better. If Leach can't go there would be a very slight reduction to the value of Ray Rice.
Matt Schaub, QB1/13/2013 9:41:00 PM
Description: Texans QB Matt Schaub threw for 343 yards Sunday against the Patriots.
Insight: Schaub's 25-yard strike to DeVier Posey in the fourth quarter was his first career postseason touchdown. He threw for another one six minutes later to cut New England's lead to just 10 points. Sunday was Schaub's third 300-yard game of the season and his first one since Thanksgiving.
Arian Foster, RBHot1/13/2013 9:22:00 PM
Description: Houston halfback Arian Foster ran for a game-high 90 yards on 22 attempts Sunday at New England.
Insight: He also had seven catches for 63 yards when used as a receiver. Foster has scored at least one touchdown in each of his four postseason games.
Johnathan Joseph, DB1/11/2013 12:30:00 PM
Description: Texans' cornerback Johnathan Joseph is probable for Sunday's AFC Divisional Playoff against New England due to illness.
Insight: If ever there was a game that Joseph and the rest of the secondary needs to be at 100 percent its while facing the Patriots.
Vonta Leach, FB1/11/2013 12:10:00 PM
Description: Fullback Vonta Leach is questionable for Saturday's AFC Divisional Playoff against Denver with knee and ankle problems.
Insight: Leach is thought to be one of the best blocking fullback in the NFL though he has no fantasy value. However, his absence would lower expectations for Ray Rice and Bernard Pierce.
Garrett Graham, TE1/10/2013 11:26:00 AM
Description: Houston tight end Garrett Graham has recovered from the concussion he suffered Saturday against the Bengals and will be on the field Sunday at New England.
Insight: Graham (28 receptions, 263 yards in 2012) isn't even the best tight end on his team. You can ignore him for fantasy purposes.
Matt Schaub, QB1/5/2013 9:16:00 PM
Description: Houston quarterback Matt Schaub completed 29-of-38 passes for 262 yards and an interception Saturday in his first career playoff victory.
Insight: This wasn't Schaub's best effort but certainly the Texans (losers of three out of four to end the regular season) were happy to get the win. Next, Houston will head to Foxborough to take on the AFC East Champion Patriots. New England blew the Texans out when they played in Week 14 (42-14).
Arian Foster, RB1/5/2013 9:08:00 PM
Description: Texans running back Arian Foster bulldozed his way to 140 yards rushing Saturday in a first round win over Cincinnati.
Insight: The 32 carries Foster received were a season-high. Foster and the Texans play New England a week from Sunday. Foster was held to 46 yards on 15 rushes when he played against the Patriots earlier in the season.
J.J. Watt, DE12/31/2012 5:50:00 PM
Description: Houston defensive end J.J. Watt fell two sacks short of Michael Strahan's single-season sacks record but his 20.5 sacks were still the most in the NFL this season.
Insight: Watt finished one sack ahead of 49ers linebacker Aldon Smith and two ahead of Broncos linebacker Von Miller. Watt might be the most feared pass rusher in the game today. He's a leading candidate for Defensive Player of the Year and might even steal a few MVP votes away from Adrian Peterson.
Arian Foster, RB12/30/2012 4:33:00 PM
Description: Houston tailback Arian Foster returned to form Sunday against the Colts, rushing for 96 yards and a touchdown on 16 carries.
Insight: Foster disappointed fantasy owners with 15 yards on 10 carries with a lost fumble in Week 16 before leaving with an irregular heartbeat. His effort Sunday gives him 1,424 rushing yards on the year, the second 1,400-yard season of his career. Foster also reached 15 rushing touchdowns, one shy of his career high.
Owen Daniels, TE12/27/2012 4:32:00 PM
Description: Texans tight end Owen Daniels (hamstring) didn't practice Thursday after participating on a limited basis Wednesday. SOURCE: Tania Ganguli, Houston Chronicle
Insight: Houston coach Gary Kubiak downplayed the absence. "Owen's fine. He's got a sore hamstring," he said. According to Nick Scurfield of HoustonTexans.com, Daniels did the walk-through portion of practice but the team held him out of physical portions due to cold weather. The TE should be on the field in Week 17.
Arian Foster, RB12/26/2012 3:24:00 PM
Description: Houston tailback Arian Foster, who had an irregular heartbeat when he was taken out of Sunday's game against Minnesota, was out on the practice field Wednesday with no residual effects.
Insight: Foster insists he's "fine" and that he could have come back into the game. We expect him to play and get his usual workload this week against Indianapolis.
Arian Foster, RB12/23/2012 6:08:00 PM
Description: Houston tailback Arian Foster had an irregular heartbeat when he was taken out of Sunday's game against Minnesota.
Insight: Foster insists he's "fine" and that he could have come back into the game. Unless we hear anything more, we'd expect him to play next week against Indianapolis.
Andre Johnson, WR12/23/2012 4:25:00 PM
Description: Houston wideout Andre Johnson caught seven of his 10 targets for 97 yards Sunday against Minnesota.
Insight: Quarterback Matt Schaub did not have a big day but most of his 178 passing yards went Johnson's way. Johnson has 1,457 yards, the third highest total of his career, with one game remaining.
Arian Foster, RB12/23/2012 3:29:00 PM
Description: Texans halfback Arian Foster left Sunday's game against the Vikings with an "illness." Foster missed the entire series leading up to a Houston field goal late in the third quarter and left the field shortly afterwards.
Insight: Foster is having his worst game of the season, rushing for 15 yards on 10 carries and losing a fumble.
Arian Foster, RB12/16/2012 7:29:00 PM
Description: Texans halfback Arian Foster ate up a huge chunk of yards Sunday against the Colts but failed to find the end zone for the first time since Week 11.
Insight: Foster tallied a season-high 165 yards on 27 touches. Coincidentally, his career-high in rushing yards also came against the Colts back in 2010 (231 yards on 33 carries in the season opener).
Andre Johnson, WR12/16/2012 7:04:00 PM
Description: Houston wideout Andre Johnson had another big game Sunday against Indianapolis. He corralled 11 receptions for 151 yards as the Texans held on for the 29-17 victory.
Insight: It hasn't been a big touchdown year for Johnson but Sunday he was able to nab one for his fourth score of the season. Johnson's 1,360 receiving yards this year are his most since 2009 (1,569).
Bernard Pollard, DB12/16/2012 11:45:00 AM
Description: Ravens safety Bernard Pollard won't be available for Sunday's game against the Broncos. He's battling a chest injury.
Insight: James Ihedigbo is next up on the depth chart for the injury-plagued Ravens. He'll get the start at strong safety today against Denver's seventh-ranked passing attack.
Bernard Pollard, DB12/16/2012 11:15:00 AM
Description: Baltimore safety Bernard Pollard is a game-time decision for Sunday's matchup with Denver.
Insight: Pollard missed practice all week while tending to a rib injury. Pollard leads the Ravens in tackles with 98 this season so obviously his loss will be felt if he can't play.
Johnathan Joseph, DB12/10/2012 8:45:00 PM
Description: Texans cornerback Johnathan Joseph is back in the lineup after missing two games with a hamstring injury.
Insight: Joseph should give Houston's secondary a boost Monday against New England's high-powered passing attack. He had six tackles in his most recent outing against the Patriots back in 2010.
Johnathan Joseph, DB11/30/2012 2:12:00 PM
Description: Houston cornerback Johnathan Joseph (hamstring) has been ruled out for Week 13.
Insight: Joseph makes the entire Houston defense stronger when he's covering the opponent's top receiver. He missed last week and Matthews Stafford put up 441 yards. Titans' QB Jake Locker should be upgraded slightly with Joseph out of the lineup.
Ben Tate, RB11/28/2012 3:35:00 PM
Description: Houston running back Ben Tate (hamstring) participated in Wednesday's practice and is expected to backup Arian Foster in Week 13.
Insight: He still doesn't have much fantasy value, but he replaces Justin Forsett on the depth chart.
Johnathan Joseph, DB11/28/2012 3:30:00 PM
Description: Houston cornerback Johnathan Joseph (hamstring) will be a game-time decision in Week 13.
Insight: Joseph makes the entire Houston defense stronger when he's covering the opponent's top receiver. Joseph missed last week and Matthews Stafford put up 441 yards.
Johnathan Joseph, DB11/26/2012 9:04:00 PM
Description: Houston cornerback Johnathan Joseph believes he'll be able to play Sunday against Tennessee. Joseph missed the Texans' Thanksgiving Day win over Detroit with a strained hamstring.
Insight: Joseph had four tackles against the Titans when he played them earlier in the season. He's second on the team in interceptions with two picks in 10 games.
Brooks Reed, LB11/23/2012 9:13:00 PM
Description: Albert Breer from NFL.com reports Houston linebacker Brooks Reed will need 3-to-4 weeks to recover from an injured groin.
Insight: Reed got hurt in the first quarter of Thursday's game against Detroit and did not return. He has 34 tackles and two and a half sacks this season.
Arian Foster, RBHot11/22/2012 5:03:00 PM
Description: Houston running back Arian Foster rushed for 100-plus yards for the third time in the last four games and the sixth time this season Thursday against the Lions with 102 yards and two scores on 20 carries.
Insight: Foster failed to reach the end zone for the first time this season in Week 11, so he decided to get in twice four days later.
Andre Johnson, WRHot11/22/2012 4:59:00 PM
Description: Texans wide receiver Andre Johnson enjoyed his second overtime period in four days Thursday against the Lions. Johnson caught nine balls for 188 yards on 15 targets in another Houston victory.
Insight: Johnson has exploded the last two weeks for 461 yards, 43.6 percent of his yardage total for the season (1,058). It's doubtful any of the secondaries he faces in the next three games (Tennessee, New England, Indianapolis) will be able to stop him.
Ben Tate, RB11/20/2012 12:18:00 PM
Description: Houston backup running back Ben Tate (hamstring) is doubtful for Thursday's game against Detroit.
Insight: Justin Forsett will backup Arian Foster if Tate is again inactive.
Owen Daniels, TE11/20/2012 12:15:00 PM
Description: Texans' tight end Owen Daniels is probable for Thursday's game against Detroit after catching six balls for 57 yards in the game versus Jacksonville.
Insight: As recently as last Friday it looked like Daniels would be on the shelf for Week 11, but he managed to play and come out of the game without re-injuring the hip.
Andre Johnson, WR11/18/2012 7:00:00 PM
Description: Texans wide receiver Andre Johnson delivered a receiving performance for the ages Sunday in a win against Jacksonville. He brought in 14 catches for a career-high 273 yards.
Insight: His last catch went for a 48-yard touchdown and sealed the win for Houston in overtime. While it would be silly to expect Johnson to have another week like this, it's certainly good to see that the veteran get back on track.
Matt Schaub, QB11/18/2012 6:19:00 PM
Description: Texans QB Matt Schaub registered an amazing 527 yards passing and five touchdowns Sunday against the Jaguars.
Insight: The 527 yards tied Warren Moon for the second-most ever in an NFL game. If Schaub wasn't on the fantasy radar before this game he certainly will be now.
Owen Daniels, TE11/18/2012 12:20:00 PM
Description: Texans tight end Owen Daniels will start Sunday against Jacksonville.
Insight: As recently as Friday it looked like Daniels would be on the shelf this week but apparently that's no longer the case. He has scored a touchdown in five out of his last six games and it wouldn't be surprising to see him find the end zone again in Week 11. The Jaguars rank 23rd in the NFL in opponent passing yards.
Owen Daniels, TE11/18/2012 10:34:00 AM
Description: In a surprise move, it looks like Texans tight end Owen Daniels will start Sunday versus Jacksonville according to Adam Schefter from ESPN. Daniels had been a game-time decision because of a hip injury.
Owen Daniels, TE11/16/2012 2:40:00 PM
Description: Houston tight end Owen Daniels (hip) will miss Week 11 against Jacksonville, according to Ryan O'Halloran of The Florida Times-Union.
Insight: Jacksonville figures to be able to get past the woeful Jaguars without Daniels and this will give him more time to be ready for the Thanksgiving Day game at Detroit. Daniels has five touchdown receptions in his last six games and is probably Matt Schaub's second favorite target behind Andre Johnson.
Owen Daniels, TE11/12/2012 1:15:00 PM
Description: Houston tight end Owen Daniels (hip) was inactive for Sunday night's game with Chicago, but close enough to test the injury in pregame warmups.
Insight: Daniels should have a decent chance to play in Sunday's game against Jacksonville.
Arian Foster, RBHot11/12/2012 10:23:00 AM
Description: Houston running back Arian Foster rushed for 100-plus yards for the fifth time this season Sunday night against the Bears. He added five receptions for 15 yards and a touchdown.
Insight: Foster is a horse -- he's carried the ball 24 times or more in seven of nine games this season, putting him on pace for 393 carries. Add in the fact that he's scored at least one touchdown in every game this season and you have yourself one of the most reliable players in fantasy football.
Owen Daniels, TE11/11/2012 7:22:00 PM
Description: Houston tight end Owen Daniels (hip) is inactive for Sunday night's game with Chicago.
Insight: There aren't many good options available playing Sunday night or Monday with out. Garrett Graham will get the start at tight end, but fullback James Casey will play tight end too and might be a better option.
Owen Daniels, TE11/11/2012 10:42:00 AM
Description: Houston tight end Owen Daniels (hip) is a game-time call Sunday night against the Bears. SOURCE: Adam Schefter, ESPN
Insight: There aren't many good options available playing Sunday night or Monday if Daniels is ruled out. James Casey, Kellen Davis or Tony Moeaki are probably available but none of those guys are attractive fantasy players.
Owen Daniels, TE11/9/2012 2:06:00 PM
Description: Houston tight end Owen Daniels returned to limited practice Friday. He's struggling with a sore hip.
Insight: Daniels has been very good this season, catching 37 balls for 478 yards and five touchdowns to put him among the top fantasy tight ends. If Daniels can't go, James Casey would start, but he doesn't have Daniels' deep threat ability.
Owen Daniels, TE11/7/2012 4:52:00 PM
Description: Houston tight end Owen Daniels was unable to practice Wednesday because of a sore hip.
Insight: The Texans have a tough game coming up Sunday against Chicago and they'd certainly be better off with Daniels in their lineup. If he can't go, the team's other option at tight end is Garrett Graham (10 catches, 122 yards this season).
Andre Johnson, WR11/4/2012 6:31:00 PM
Description: Houston wideout Andre Johnson grabbed eight balls for 118 yards Sunday in a win against the Bills.
Insight: Sunday was Johnson's first 100-yard effort since Week 1 when he went off for 119 yards against Miami. The Texans' next game will be Sunday against the Bears.
Arian Foster, RB11/4/2012 6:28:00 PM
Description: Houston halfback Arian Foster exploded for 111 yards on 24 carries Sunday against Buffalo.
Insight: Sunday was Foster's fourth 100-yard game of the year. Foster's three-yard touchdown in the third quarter was his 10th of the season. He's scored in every game but one this season.
Ben Tate, RB11/4/2012 12:20:00 PM
Description: Houston backup running back Ben Tate (hamstring) is inactive for Sunday's game against Buffalo.
Insight: Tate could have joined Arian Foster in feasting on the league's worst run defense. Instead, No. 3 back Justin Forsett, might get enough carries and yards to be a low-end fantasy value.
Brian Cushing, LB10/25/2012 11:53:00 AM
Description: Texans LB Brian Cushing is scheduled to have his ACL surgery Thursday, according to the Houston Chronicle.
Insight: Dr. James Andrews will operate on Cushing's knee. The Texans hope to have the star linebacker back for training camp next season.
Ben Tate, RB10/22/2012 11:21:00 AM
Description: Houston backup running back Ben Tate injured his hamstring during Sunday's blowout win over Baltimore.
Insight: Tate will have the bye week to recover. If Tate is healthy enough to play he should be a serviceable flex player against Buffalo's laughably awful run defense in Week 9.
Arian Foster, RBHot10/21/2012 5:54:00 PM
Description: Texans running back Arian Foster bounced back from a 29-yard effort last week against Green Bay by carrying the ball 19 times for 98 yards and two scores Sunday in a win over Baltimore.
Insight: Foster has a league-best nine rushing touchdowns in seven games this season. Six of those scores have come in Houston's last four games. Fantasy owners will have a tough time replacing Foster next week when he and the 6-1 Texans go on bye.
Johnathan Joseph, DB10/17/2012 5:54:00 PM
Description: Texans cornerback Johnathan Joseph (groin) won't practice Wednesday or Thursday, according to Houston coach Gary Kubiak.
Insight: Joseph's iffy situation makes Torrey Smith a more attractive option for Week 7.
Matt Schaub, QBCold10/15/2012 10:36:00 AM
Description: Houston QB Matt Schaub had his worst game of the year Sunday against the Packers.
Insight: The ninth-year quarterback was picked off twice and failed to reach 250 yards passing for the third week in a row. Schaub's QB rating over the past two weeks is a dismal 63.6.
Arian Foster, RB10/15/2012 10:12:00 AM
Description: Houston tailback Arian Foster turned in his lowest rushing total of the season but he was still able to find the end zone twice in Sunday's loss to Green Bay.
Insight: The fourth-year running back was held to just 29 yards on the ground. Foster should be able to bounce back next week against a Ravens team that let up 227 yards rushing Sunday against Dallas.
J.J. Watt, DE10/12/2012 10:30:00 PM
Description: Texans DE J.J. Watt has 7.5 sacks, 26 total tackles, two fumble recoveries and an incredible eight passes deflected in five games this season.
Insight: Watt has been a monster on Houston's defensive line, disrupting opposing quarterbacks in a variety of ways. He's tied for third in the league in passes deflected; the next closest defensive lineman is Seattle's Chris Clemons with four.
Ben Tate, RB10/12/2012 1:35:00 PM
Description: Texans running back Ben Tate (toe) was officially limited again on Thursday, but coach Gary Kubiak said he expected Tate to play.
Insight: Tate did have one good game against Miami, but his 5-10 rushing attempts per game aren't enough for fantasy owners to start him on a consistent basis. With his toe injury, he'll likely be on the low side in attempts and you should sit him.
Andre Johnson, WR10/11/2012 6:18:00 PM
Description: Texans receiver Andre Johnson (groin) fully practiced Thursday.
Insight: Johnson caught just one ball Monday against the Jets. His fantasy value has been greatly hampered by Houston's conservative play-calling -- the Texans are second in the NFL in rushing attempts with 183 and 62.8 percent of Matt Schaub's 97 completions have gone to backs or tight ends.
Ben Tate, RB10/9/2012 4:59:00 PM
Description: Texans coach Gary Kubiak said running back Ben Tate (toe) was "not close" to suiting up for Monday's game against the Jets.
Insight: It's looking increasingly unlikely that Tate won't play in Week 6 against the Packers. Arian Foster has been getting the full load for Houston even when Tate has been healthy so the backup is no longer a flex option anyway.
Brian Cushing, LB10/9/2012 4:34:00 PM
Description: Texans LB Brian Cushing MRI revealed a torn ACL, according to NBCSports.com's ProFootballTalk.
Insight: Obviously the loss of Cushing makes Houston's defense much less fearsome. The linebacker is one of the leaders of the team both physically and emotionally, and he'll be impossible to replace. Cushing's absence could make a huge difference Sunday against the high-powered Packers.
Arian Foster, RB10/9/2012 1:24:00 PM
Description: Texans running back Arian Foster topped the career 5,000-yard mark from scrimmage against New York on Monday night in just his 40th game and 32nd start. He's the third fastest to that total behind Edgerrin James and Eric Dickerson, according to Nick Scurfield.
Insight: Foster leads the league in rushing attempts (132) and rushing touchdowns (5). He's on a mind-numbing 422-attempt pace this season. The NFL record is 416 by Larry Johnson of Kansas City in 2006.
Brian Cushing, LB10/9/2012 1:16:00 PM
Description: Houston linebacker Brian Cushing, who left Monday night's game versus the Jets after injuring his left knee, may have torn his ACL, according to Adam Schefter. He'll get an MRI on Tuesday to confirm.
Insight: He's a starter on the second-best fantasy best defense/special teams in the league, behind only the Chicago Bears. Cushing has 29 tackles, one interception and a forced fumble.
Brian Cushing, LB10/8/2012 10:19:00 PM
Description: Houston linebacker Brian Cushing was removed from Monday night's game versus the Jets after injuring his left knee.
Insight: Cushing is questionable to return. So far this season, Cushing has 29 tackles and one interception.
Ben Tate, RB10/8/2012 8:10:00 PM
Description: As expected, Houston halfback Ben Tate won't play Monday versus the Jets. Tate is out with an injured toe.
Insight: Tate has only been getting around six carries a game this season, so he hasn't really been able to add much in terms of fantasy production. For now, Arian Foster (380 yards, 4 TD) is the only Texans running back worth owning in fantasy.
Ben Tate, RB10/8/2012 2:29:00 PM
Description: Texans running back Ben Tate (toe) is unlikely to play Monday night against the Jets, reports ESPN's Adam Schefter.
Insight: According to the Texans' official website, coach Gary Kubiak said Tate would "probably be ready" for Monday even though he's dealing with a toe injury but it appears he'll miss the game. If you started Tate at a running back or flex spot the pickings are likely slim on the waiver wire. Justin Forsett, Kevin Walter, Bilal Powell and Jeremy Kerley are little-owned options that you could use.
Andre Johnson, WR10/6/2012 8:24:00 PM
Description: Texans receiver Andre Johnson (groin) is probable for Monday's game against the Jets.
Insight: Johnson was limited some in practice this week but he was a full go Saturday and is no threat to miss Monday's game. Start him as usual, especially with shutdown cornerback Darrelle Revis out.
Ben Tate, RB10/6/2012 8:17:00 PM
Description: Texans running back Ben Tate (toe) returned to practice Saturday. He'll have an extra day of recovery since Houston plays the Jets on Monday night.
Insight: According to the Texans' official website, coach Gary Kubiak said Tate would "probably be ready" for Monday even though he's dealing with a toe injury. Even though Tate is arguably the best backup running back in the league, his usage has been too sporadic to trust him in fantasy, especially while he's banged up.
Ben Tate, RB10/1/2012 6:12:00 PM
Description: Texans running back Ben Tate will undergo X-rays on his sore toe, according to John McClain of the Houston Chronicle.
Insight: Tate is arguably the best backup running back in the NFL but his fantasy value is limited because he's behind Arian Foster, who's on pace for 400-plus carries.
Arian Foster, RB10/1/2012 5:59:00 PM
Description: With Texans running back Arian Foster on pace for 400-plus carries, coach Gary Kubiak said "he can handle it; I know that. You never know how the season's going to go."
Insight: Foster has 112 touches in four weeks, 103 carries and nine catches. There's a history of running backs burning out the year after carrying the ball 370-plus times, so that's something keeper league owners will have to worry about.
Owen Daniels, TE9/30/2012 5:11:00 PM
Description: Texans tight end Owen Daniels caught six passes for 72 yards and a touchdown Sunday against the Titans. Houston has played it conservative on offense this season, running the ball a ton and throwing the majority of the time to backs and tight ends.
Insight: Daniels, not Andre Johnson, has been Matt Schaub's No. 1 target this season. He has 19 catches, 232 yards and two scores through four games. Fourteen of Schaub's 20 completions went to a back or a tight end on Sunday.
Andre Johnson, WR9/28/2012 2:52:00 PM
Description: Texans receiver Andre Johnson (groin) was limited in Thursday's practice after missing Wednesday.
Insight: Wednesday is usually an off day or limited for Johnson as the team tries to keep him healthy, but Thursday's limited practice was not expected. We still think he'll play and have a big game against Tennessee.
Matt Schaub, QB9/28/2012 2:49:00 PM
Description: Texans quarterback Matt Schaub is dealing with shoulder problems but was a full participant in Thursday's practice
Insight: Schaub had a huge Week 3 against Denver throwing for 290 yards and four touchdowns. He'll face a Titans team that gave up 400 yards passing last week. He's a must-start.
Johnathan Joseph, DB9/28/2012 2:28:00 PM
Description: Texans cornerback Johnathan Joseph (groin) was expected to practice on Friday, but was too sore.
Insight: Joseph is the Texans' best cornerback and if he's unavailable for Week 4 it makes either Kenny Britt, if he plays, or Nate Washington a better fantasy option.
Andre Johnson, WR9/22/2012 2:32:00 PM
Description: Texans receiver Andre Johnson said something fantasy owners never want to hear: "I don't really care about stats. When you're a young player in this league, you tend to worry about that. Going through all the injuries and things I've been through over the last year, my big thing is just winning."
Insight: While we admire Johnson's selflessness, we'd prefer it if he demanded the ball more for fantasy purposes. The Texans are certainly a run-first offense but they won't be able to hand the ball off 46 times every week like they did against the Jaguars in Week 2 so we expect Johnson to put up his usual stats most of the time.
Bernard Pollard, DB9/17/2012 10:40:00 AM
Description: Ravens SS Bernard Pollard (ribs) left the game against Philadelphia in the first quarter and didn't return. According to Aaron Wilson of the Baltimore Sun, x-rays were negative.
Insight: Eagles tight end Brent Celek playing against backup James Ihedigbo toasted him for an eight-catch, 157-yard day. If Pollard can't go in Week 3 when the Ravens face the Patriots, Rob Gronkowski could put up monster numbers.
Andre Johnson, WR9/16/2012 5:05:00 PM
Description: Houston's conservative approach hurt Andre Johnson in Week 2 as he caught just three balls for 21 yards.
Insight: Houston didn't need to take any risks against Jacksonville Sunday. The Texans ran the ball 48 times in the game and even though Matt Schaub threw it 35 times 20 of his 26 completions went to running backs or tight ends.
Ben Tate, RB9/16/2012 4:54:00 PM
Description: Texans running back Ben Tate carried 12 times for 74 yards and two touchdowns Sunday against the Jaguars after not being involved much in Week 1. Tate only had five carries for six yards last week.
Insight: Tate is going to be a risky week-to-week play because you can't predict how much Houston will use him in any particular game but his potential for RB1 numbers makes him flex-worthy every week.
Arian Foster, RB9/16/2012 4:51:00 PM
Description: The Texans got Ben Tate more involved in Week 2 but that didn't mean Arian Foster was going to be utilized less. Foster carried the ball 28 times for 110 yards and a touchdown Sunday against Jacksonville.
Insight: Foster also caught six passes for 37 yards. The running back is the epicenter of Houston's run-first offense and should continue to be among the best players in fantasy football all season.
Matt Schaub, QB9/9/2012 7:02:00 PM
Description: Adam Schefter of ESPN tweeted Sunday that the Texans and quarterback Matt Schaub have agreed to a four-year, $62 million contract extension.
Insight: Schaub missed half of last season with a foot injury but he looked sharp in his return to the field Sunday versus the Dolphins. The 31-year-old threw for 266 yards and a touchdown on 31 passing attempts. He did not throw an interception.
Andre Johnson, WR9/9/2012 4:21:00 PM
Description: In Week 1, Texans receiver Andre Johnson proved why he'll be a top-five fantasy receiver if he can just stay on the field. Johnson caught eight balls for 119 yards and a touchdown.
Insight: The Texans are a run-first offense but that doesn't inhibit Johnson's fantasy value. As long as he plays 16 games, you can pencil in 95 catches, 1,300 yards and eight touchdowns.
Arian Foster, RB9/9/2012 4:16:00 PM
Description: It appears Texans running back Arian Foster's knee is just fine. Foster carried the ball 26 times for 79 yards and punched in two scores in Week 1.
Insight: Miami held Foster to a long of 14 yards but the high-volume back still managed to turn in an elite effort. Backup Ben Tate only received five carries in a 20-point blowout.
Arian Foster, RB9/9/2012 11:40:00 AM
Description: As expected, Houston halfback Arian Foster (knee) will start Sunday against the Dolphins.
Insight: Miami actually had the league's third-best rushing defense in 2011, but Foster is way too good not to start in Week 1.
Arian Foster, RB9/9/2012 10:24:00 AM
Description: Texans running back Arian Foster (knee) is expected to play in Week 1, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.
Insight: Schefter said the Houston coaching staff wants to test Foster in warmups before clearing him to play, so there's a chance he sits. We'll continue to monitor the situation up until kickoff. Ben Tate would make for an excellent start if Foster is out, and he's not a bad flex play if Foster starts.
Arian Foster, RB9/7/2012 2:49:00 PM
Description: Texans running back Arian Foster is dealing with knee pain, but according to coach Gary Kubiak he's "optimistic" about Foster's Week 1 status.
Insight: The team sent him for an MRI after Thursday's practice and fantasy owners should be a little bit concerned. Hopefully, Foster owners handcuffed Ben Tate and will be able to make a game-time change to the Texans backup if needed.
Arian Foster, RB9/6/2012 6:30:00 PM
Description: Texans running back Arian Foster left practice early Thursday with a sore knee, according to the Houston Chronicle.
Insight: Foster's injury is not believed to be serious. Houston coach Gary Kubiak sent Foster to the locker room as a precaution and he thinks he'll be able to play Sunday.
Andre Johnson, WR9/5/2012 5:08:00 PM
Description: Texans receiver Andre Johnson fully participated in practice Wednesday and is 100 percent to start the year.
Insight: Johnson had a minor groin injury early in camp and he also had the wind knocked out of him in the third preseason game. Johnson's top-five upside makes him a worthwhile risk in spite of his injury history.
Andre Johnson, WR8/18/2012 10:48:00 PM
Description: Texans receiver Andre Johnson looks healthy and ready to go for the start of the regular season.
Insight: Johnson caught two passes in Houston's preseason game Saturday against San Francisco, but one was a 43-yarder. Johnson will be a steal as the fourth wideout off the board (fantasyfootballcalculator.com ADP: 3.01) if he can stay healthy.
Matt Schaub, QB8/18/2012 10:45:00 PM
Description: Houston Texans quarterback Matt Schaub looked very good in the team's preseason game Saturday against the Bears, completing 11-of-14 for 128 yards and a touchdown.
Insight: Schaub is an injury risk but if he plays a full season like he did in 2009 and 2010 he's a near-lock to post top-10 quarterback numbers, even if the Texans are likely to favor the running game.
Andre Johnson, WR8/11/2012 7:01:00 PM
Description: Texans receiver Andre Johnson will not be available for Saturday night's game versus the 49ers. He's out with an injured groin.
Insight: If this were the regular season Johnson would probably be out there but since this is just a meaningless exhibition, head coach Gary Kubiak has chosen to play it safe by resting his All-Pro wide receiver.
Andre Johnson, WR8/6/2012 11:03:00 AM
Description: As expected, Houston Texans star wide receiver Andre Johnson (groin) returned to the practice field on Monday. SOURCE: NFL Network
Insight: He's played just 20 of a possible 32 games over the past two seasons after going two years without missing a game. As always he'll be a high-risk late-second or early third-round selection, but if healthy is a 1,200-yard plus receiver.
Andre Johnson, WR8/3/2012 12:08:00 PM
Description: Houston Texans star wide receiver Andre Johnson told NFL Network that he would be back on the field this Monday.
Insight: It's never a good sign when an injury-prone player like Johnson is getting hurt in training camp. He's played just 20 of a possible 32 games over the past two seasons after going two years without missing a game. As always he'll be a high-risk late-second or early third-round selection, but if healthy is a 1,200-yard plus receiver.
J.J. Watt, DE8/2/2012 6:53:00 PM
Description: According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Texas defensive end J.J. Watt suffered a dislocated elbow Thursday but is not expected to miss much time after doctors pop the joint back in.
Insight: Watt stands to improve on the 5.5 sacks he recorded during his rookie season. The defensive end had 3.5 sacks, an INT and a touchdown as well as 11 solo tackles in two playoff games, so he should be a target for those in IDP leagues.
Andre Johnson, WR8/2/2012 11:16:00 AM
Description: Houston Texans star wide receiver Andre Johnson was running again on Wednesday, according to Nick Scurfield of HoustonTexans.com. It's been about a week since he injured his groin.
Insight: The groin injury was never thought to be serious, but it's never a good sign when an injury-prone player like Johnson is already getting hurt. He's played just 20 of a possible 32 games over the past two seasons after going two years without missing a game. As always he'll be a high-risk late-second or early third-round selection.
Andre Johnson, WR7/29/2012 7:43:00 PM
Description: Texans wide receiver Andre Johnson will miss a week of training camp with a "mild" groin strain, according to the Houston Chronicle.
Insight: The ailment is not considered serious but it's not a good sign that the injury-prone Johnson is already dinged up considering he is coming off knee surgery.
Andre Johnson, WR7/17/2012 5:02:00 PM
Description: Texans quarterback Matt Schaub said teammate Andre Johnson is fully recovered from the arthroscopic knee surgery he had in early May, according to the Houston Chronicle.
Insight: Johnson has been working out with Schaub at the University of Houston after missing offseason practices. As usual, Johnson will be a top-three fantasy receiver if he can stay healthy, but he comes into this season having missed 12 games over the last two.
Andre Johnson, WR6/29/2012 4:40:00 PM
Description: Texans wide receiver Andre Johnson (knee) has been working out daily with quarterback Matt Schaub, according to the Texans' official website.
Insight: Johnson had minor arthroscopic surgery on his left knee in May after missing 12 games over the last two seasons due to hamstring and ankle injuries. The receiver has been back out on the field with Schaub and should be good to go once training camp starts.
Matt Schaub, QB6/9/2012 11:17:00 AM
Description: Houston Texans quarterback Matt Schaub is expected to be 100-percent when training camp begins this July. Schaub missed the final six games of 2011 and the playoffs after Lisfranc surgery on his right foot last November.
Insight: Great news for Andre Johnson fans as Schaub threw for more than 4,300 yards in each of the two seasons before the injury. It won't hurt running back Arian Foster either, now that the defense will have to respect the Schaub-to-Johnson hookup and can't crowd the line of scrimmage.
Andre Johnson, WR5/22/2012 2:52:00 PM
Description: Texans superstar wide receiver Andre Johnson is expected to miss 3-4 weeks after having arthroscopic surgery on his left knee.
Insight: Seriously? We haven't even begun training camp and the oft-injured wideout is already missing time? He's missed 12 games over the past two seasons and is the very definition of high-risk, high-reward.
