Arizona Diamondbacks (53-69) at Miami Marlins (60-62), 7:10 p.m.

Probable Starting Pitchers: Arizona - Wade Miley (7-8, 4.61) Miami - Henderson Alvarez (8-5, 2.48)

( - Help Wanted: Only aces need apply.

That's a sign that could easily be posted outside the Miami Marlins clubhouse on Saturday night, when right-hander Henderson Alvarez returns to the fold for game three of a four-game weekend series with the visiting Arizona Diamondbacks.

The Marlins began the season with youngster Jose Fernandez at the top of the rotation, but lost him in May when he was forced to undergo ligament- replacement surgery in his elbow.

Alvarez stepped into the void and had a 13-start stretch in which he won six of eight decisions and compiled an earned run average below 3.00, but he was put on the shelf himself after experiencing inflammation in his right shoulder after a defeat of Washington on July 29.

Workload could be an issue with Alvarez, who's logged more innings already this season than he did at Triple-A and with the Marlins in 2013.

"The rest has definitely helped me," he said. "I rested my whole arm and now I get to start again. I'm just glad I can come back, and I hope I'll stay healthy so I can finish out strong."

Miami is 12-2 with Alvarez on the mound and can make it two of three against Arizona after winning Thursday's series opener and losing on Friday. The loss came thanks in part to hitting into four double plays.

"They hurt us tonight for sure," Marlins third baseman Casey McGehee said. "It's going to happen from time to time, but it doesn't make you feel any better about it."

The Diamondbacks start Wade Miley, who can make it a rare two straight wins.

Arizona has won two in a row just twice since July 20.

Miley allowed three runs in six innings of a game the Diamondbacks ultimately lost, 5-3, in 10 innings on Sunday. One start earlier, he was ripped for 10 runs in 4 2/3 innings of a 12-2 loss to Kansas City.

In three meetings with the Marlins, he's 2-1 with a 0.89 ERA.

On Friday, Cliff Pennington and Aaron Hill each homered to help the Diamondbacks to a 3-2 win over the Marlins.

Trevor Cahill (3-8) recorded the win after going 6 2/3 innings, yielding two runs on six hits with three walks and three strikeouts.

Brad Hand (2-5) allowed three runs on five hits over seven innings of work in the setback.

Giancarlo Stanton and Garrett Jones knocked in a run apiece for Miami, which had won five of seven entering the contest.
