NBA Game Summary - Houston at Utah
(Monday, November 19th)
Final Score: Utah 102, Houston 91
Salt Lake City, UT (Sports Network) - Gordon Hayward paced five double-digit
scorers with 15 points as the Utah Jazz downed the Houston Rockets, 102-91, at
EnergySolutions Arena.
Randy Foye and Al Jefferson each contributed 14 points, Marvin Williams netted
12 and Paul Millsap poured in 10 for the Jazz, who stretched their home win
streak to 10 straight games.
Jefferson also grabbed 16 rebounds.
"I thought it was a great win for us," Jazz coach Tyrone Corbin said. "We did
a good job of sharing the ball and I thought the second group came in and gave
us a huge boost moving the ball against the transition baskets and opened the
game up for us a little bit."
Patrick Patterson scored 19 points and Chandler Parson had a double-double
with 11 points and 10 rebounds for Houston, which dropped its third
consecutive game.
James Harden had six points, three assists and two rebounds before leaving the
game in the second quarter with upper respiratory distress.
Houston opened the game with a 9-2 push to jump out to an early lead, but the
Jazz answered with a 13-1 run to go on top, 15-10, near the midpoint of the
first quarter.
Patterson then scored all seven points in a 7-4 spurt by the Rockets to knot
the game at 17-17, but they could not take the lead and trailed, 29-26,
entering the second quarter.
Utah then dominated the second quarter, netting the first 13 points of the
frame to run out to a 42-26 lead.
The Jazz would later stretch their lead up to a game-high 23 points at 59-36
on a Foye 3-pointer with just under two minutes remaining in the half before
taking a comfortable 61-44 lead into the break.
Utah connected on 60 percent of its shots in the second quarter, including a
3-for-5 mark from beyond the arc, while holding Houston to just 31.8 percent
from the floor.
The Jazz then cruised through the second half as Houston was able to cut its
deficit to single digits just once over the final 24 minutes, when Greg Smith
capped a brief 6-0 push with a dunk to make it a 75-66 game with a little over
two minutes left in the third quarter.
Utah, though, closed out the third with a 10-4 run to take an 85-70 advantage
into the fourth quarter and stretched its lead up to as much as 22 in the
fourth en route to the win.
"We couldn't get back into transition. We couldn't rebound the ball well and
we just started getting a little bit selfish on the offensive end," Patterson
said. "We got down and pretty much the whole rest of the game was a dog fight,
trying to get back into the game."
