Description: Royals left-hander Danny Duffy will begin the year in the minors.
Insight: Duffy lost the fifth spot in the rotation to Yordano Ventura. The hard-throwing Duffy's career was been set back by Tommy John surgery, but he returned to post a 1.85 ERA and 22 Ks in 24 1/3 innings last season. He'll be the first pitcher called up if Kansas City needs an injury replacement in the rotation.

Description: Royals left-hander Danny Duffy blanked the Twins over 6 2/3 innings Wednesday night to pick up his second win over the season.
Insight: Duffy struck out seven and didn't walk a batter Wednesday. He has given up just six hits and no runs over 12 2/3 innings. With Wade Davis finally moved to the bullpen, the 24-year-old Duffy should have a spot in the rotation going forward. Fantasy owners in deeper leagues should take a flyer on him.

8/16/2013 8:21:00 PM
Description: Royals left-hander Danny Duffy allowed just one hit over six scoreless innings Friday afternoon at Detroit in Game 1 of a doubleheader.
Insight: It was Duffy's first win since May 3, 2012. The young lefty showed promise last year prior to undergoing Tommy John surgery, but he's blocked out of the rotation right now.

5/24/2013 4:29:00 PM
Description: Royals left-hander Danny Duffy (elbow) will begin a minor league rehab assignment Sunday, according to Bob Dutton of the Kansas City Star. Duffy had Tommy John surgery last May.
Insight: He'll throw 60 pitches for Double-A Northwest Arkansas Sunday after making six appearances in extended spring training. He'll likely remain on the rehab assignment for the full 30 days. Duffy was drafted in the third round in 2007 and was 2-2 with a 3.90 ERA and a 9.11 K/9 last season before the injury.

5/14/2012 7:57:00 PM
Description: Danny Duffy has suffered a torn ulnar collateral ligament in his elbow. The Royals have placed Duffy on the disabled list.
Insight: Duffy (2-2, 3.90 ERA in six starts) will likely undergo Tommy John surgery to repair the damage to his elbow. We wouldn't expect to see Duffy in uniform again this season.

5/13/2012 6:38:00 PM
Description: Danny Duffy left Sunday's start in the first inning with elbow tightness.
Insight: The lefty starter had to miss a start in April due to the same issue. The hard-throwing Duffy has struck out 27 batters in 27 innings this season, but his high WHIP (1.59) leaves something to be desired. Hopefully this tightness in his elbow is not something more severe, like ligament damage.

4/26/2012 10:40:00 AM
Description: Danny Duffy has elbow tightness and will have his next start skipped, according to Bob Dutton of the Kansas City Star.
Insight: The Royals are currently undecided on Friday's starter with Duffy out. The 23-year-old has 20 strikeouts and a 3.63 ERA in 17 1/3 innings but he was roughed up his last outing against Toronto.

4/22/2012 6:10:00 PM
Description: Royals starter Danny Duffy was roughed up by Toronto on Sunday. The 23-year-old gave up four runs on five hits with five walks in 4 2/3 innings.
Insight: Duffy had pitched well in his first two starts, striking out 15 in 12 2/3 innings with a 2.13 ERA before Sunday. Duffy's fastball touches 95 mph, so he remains an intriguing young starter.
