Description: White Sox closer Matt Lindstrom will need to undergo ankle surgery, according to Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times.
Insight: Lindstrom suffered a peroneal tendon subluxation in his left ankle during Monday's game and was placed on the 15-day disabled list. Even if the surgery doesn't end his season, it will keep him out for a while. Ronald Belisario and Daniel Webb are the frontrunners for saves. The 34-year-old Lindstrom can be dropped in all leagues.

Description: White Sox closer Matt Lindstrom saved his sixth game of the season Wednesday.
Insight: With Nate Jones on the shelf, the White Sox stuck with Lindstrom through his shaky start (three blown saves in first four chances). He has a 3.50 ERA, a 1.50 WHIP and a 10/9 K/BB in 18 innings, making him a low-end option among closers.

Description: The White Sox will go with Matt Lindstrom at closer to start the season. SOURCE: Daryl Van Schouwen, Chicago Sun-Times
Insight: Nate Jones had been the favorite to snag the closer's job, but Robin Ventura has decided to go with the 34-year-old Lindstrom. A setup man the past few seasons, Lindstrom hasn't been a full-time closer since 2010 with Houston.

2/17/2014 10:54:00 AM
Description: Relief pitcher Matt Lindstrom could end up starting the season as the White Sox closer as he has more experience at it than Chicago's other options. Pitching coach Don Cooper called Lindstrom, Nate Jones and Daniel Webb as the three likeliest closer candidates in a CSNChicago.com report.
Insight: We think its possible that Lindstrom will start the season as the closer if he shows well in spring training, but by the end of the season it will be Jones' job. Its certainly worth watching as he'd be a cheap source of saves.

4/14/2011 5:21:00 PM
Description: Rockies RP Matt Lindstrom pitched just 2/3 of an inning to pick up his 2nd save of the season.
Insight: Huston Street allowed 2 runs in just 1/3 of an inning, which is why Lindstrom got the save. Huston is also not the healthiest closer that ever was, so Lindstrom could easily see more save ops throughout the season.

1/18/2011 12:01:00 AM
Description: Lindstrom avoided arbitration with the Rockies Monday by agreeing to a two-year deal with the team that traded for him last month. HardballTalk.com reports that the deal includes an option for 2013.
Insight: Lindstrom saved 23 games with the Astros last year but ceded the closer job to Brandon Lyon. He'll set up Huston Street with the Rockies. (RapidDraft.com)

Description: Matt Lindstrom has been traded to Colorado for two minor league pitchers. SOURCE: MLB
Insight: His mixed league value just disappeared. Instead of competing for saves in Houston he will be a set up man in Colorado. He is a late round NL-Only pick.

12/6/2010 1:01:00 PM
Description: Ed Price of AOL Fanhouse reports the Astros are willing to trade Lindstrom.
Insight: Lindstrom may simply make too much money for the Astros to be willing to retain. He did have 23 saves, but a 4.39 ERA, for Houston in 2010. (RapidDraft.com)

9/14/2010 2:01:00 PM
Description: Lindstrom picked up his 23rd save of the season on Monday night against the Brewers.

9/7/2010 1:00:00 PM
Description: The Houston Chronicle reports Lindstrom does not anticipate regaining the closer's role for the Astros this season.
Insight: Brandon Lyon took over the role when Lindstrom was sidelined recently, and has pitched effectively, but don't count Lindstrom completely out for save opportunities. (RapidDraft.com)

9/1/2010 4:50:00 PM
Description: Matt Lindstrom came off the DL today and pitched a scoreless inning in middle relief.
Insight: He should get his closer job back at some point but Brandon Lyon has filled in well so the Astros might make him wait a week or two and prove he is healthy.

9/1/2010 3:03:00 PM
Description: The Astros have activated Lindstrom (back) from the 15-day disabled list.
Insight: Brandon Lyon has been solid as the Astros' closer in Lindstrom's place, which could lead to a fairly equal split in save opportunities going forward. (RapidDraft.com)

Description: The Houston Chronicle reports Lindstrom (back) was able to throw a bullpen session on Sunday.

Description: The Houston Chronicle reports Lindstrom (back) threw a successful bullpen session on Wednesday.
Insight: Lindstrom is scheduled for another bullpen session on Friday, and could return when eligible to come off the disabled list next Tuesday if all goes well. (SportsBuff.com)

8/25/2010 6:41:00 AM
Description: Matt Lindstrom will test his injured back by throwing off the mound today.
Insight: He can come off the DL next Tuesday but we expect him to need a little more time than that. Brandon Lyon should close for at least a couple more weeks.

8/19/2010 9:44:00 AM
Description: The Astros have placed Lindstrom (back) on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to August 17, with back spasms.
Insight: Lindstrom has struggled recently, which coincided with his lingering back issue. Brandon Lyon and Wilton Lopez could both in the mix for saves for the Astros while he is out. (SportsBuff.com)

8/17/2010 6:20:00 AM
Description: Matt Lindstrom blew a save last night by fibbing up three runs while getting just one out.
Insight: He hasn't pitched well in August and is dealing with a sore back. It wouldn't be surprising to see him pulled from the closer role soon and replaced by Brandon Lyon.
