Description: Pirates reliever Jason Grilli might not be available for Tuesday game, according to manager Clint Hurdle. He is reportedly attending to a personal matter.
Insight: Grilli has been a fantasy stud with a league-leading 15 saves in 15 chances. Mark Melancon would likely get the save opportunity if Grilli is unavailable to close.

Description: Pirates reliever Jason Grilli has been promoted to the closer's position now that Joel Hanrahan has been traded to Boston.
Insight: Grilli has been a strikeout machine, producing 127 whiffs over 91 1/3 innings since the start of the 2011 season. The Pirates were much improved this past season, so Grilli should have plenty of opportunities to close out games. He's no Mariano Rivera but Grilli will definitely be worth at least a late-round look in most fantasy leagues.

Description: Jason Grilli is expected to assume Pittsburgh's closer role once the Joel Hanrahan-to-Boston trade becomes official. SOURCE: Jon Heyman, CBSSports.com
Insight: Grilli fanned 90 batters and had a 2.91 ERA in 58 2/3 innings last season. The 36-year-old Seton Hall product re-signed with the Pirates earlier this month for just $6.75 million over two years, with no bonuses for games finished. That's a major bargain for the Pirates considering how much money some middle relievers have fetched this offseason.

Description: MLBlogs.com reports Grilli (right knee) is scheduled for an MRI after injuring his right knee on Friday.
Insight: The results likely won't be known until Saturday, so no timetable will be known until then at least. Grilli is in the mix for a spot in the Indians' bullpen. (SportsBuff.com)

Description: Grilli was traded from the Rockies to the Rangers. In 22 games with Colorado, he had a 6.05 ERA and 2.17 WHIP.
Insight: Some fantasy wonks had mentioned Grilli as a possible closer candidate for Colorado. It didn't happen. He pitched a scoreless ninth for the Rangers in his debut. Grilli did not get the save, however, because his team was losing 9-0. (SportsBuff.com)

Hot4/21/2009 5:57:00 AM
Description: Grilli tossed a perfect eighth inning in Monday's 6-3 loss to the Arizona Diamondbacks. He struck out the side.
Insight: Grilli lowered his ERA to 1.42 and WHIP to 0.95 in 6 1/3 innings this season. In 2008, we saw Taylor Buchholz transform into a tremendous option in all formats because of his top-notch ratios. Perhaps we've found another stellar arm in the Colorado bullpen - even if he isn't getting saves. (SportsBuff.com)
