Description: Royals right-hander Chris Young continues to excel in his spot starter role.
Insight: Young has made three starts this month because of suspensions and Jason Vargas' injury. On Friday, Young allowed just one run on four hits in 5 2/3 innings versus the Yankees. He also had two strikeouts and two walks. The 35 year old is 3-0 with a 0.94 ERA and 0.63 WHIP this season.
9/20/2014 10:01:00 PM
Description: Mariners righty Chris Young was knocked around in Saturday's loss to Houston.
Insight: He lasted only three innings, giving up a dreadful seven earned runs. Still, Young has been a pleasant surprise for Seattle this season. He heads into his next start with a 12-9 record and a 3.65 ERA.
9/4/2014 5:18:00 PM
Description: Mariners manager Lloyd McClendon confirmed Thursday that pitcher Chris Young will remain in the starting rotation, according to The Tacoma News Tribune, despite two straight bad starts.
Insight: Young pitched just two-thirds of an inning on Monday and three and 2/3 innings last week, allowing eight combined runs in the two starts. It is nice McClendon is sticking with his veteran down the stretch, but fantasy owners should look elsewhere for their starters.
9/1/2014 6:50:00 PM
Description: Seattle starter Chris Young has allowed 11 hits, seven walks and eight earned runs in his last 4 1/3 innings.
Insight: Young has had a great comeback season, going 12-7 with a 3.46 ERA and a 1.20 WHIP in 151 innings, but he may be running out of gas. He's also trying to keep his ERA in the threes even though his FIP is 4.74.
8/29/2014 9:11:00 PM
Description: Seattle manager Lloyd McClendon announced Friday that Chris Young will have his next start moved back from Saturday to Monday according to Ryan Divish of the Seattle Times.
Insight: McClendon apparently wants Young to have a few extra days rest before his next start. Young has had a tremdenous year but struggled in his last start allowing three runs in three and 2/3 innings. Roenis Elias will start in Young's place on Saturday. Young is 12-6 with a 3.17 ERA this year.
Hot8/17/2014 4:45:00 PM
Description: Seattle right-hander Chris Young allowed just four useless hits over six innings en route to his 12th win of the season.
Insight: Young's career revival continues. He didn't pitch in 2013, but at 12-6 is one of the biggest pitching surprises of the year. After today's effort his ERA is down to 3.07and he's won four of his last five starts.
Hot7/2/2014 5:29:00 PM
Description: Seattle right-hander Chris Young allowed two solo homers but didn't give up another hit or run to the Astros in seven innings Wednesday. The right-hander also struck out a season-high eight batters.
Insight: Young's career revival continues. He's gone 8-4 with a 3.11 ERA and a 1.11 WHIP in 98 1/3 innings this season. He didn't pitch in the majors last year and hasn't thrown more than 115 innings since 2007. He'll have to continue to defy his fielding-independent numbers (4.99 FIP) if he's going to keep this up.
6/21/2014 8:43:00 PM
Description: Seattle right-hander Chris Young pitched well in a no-decision Saturday against Kansas City.
Insight: He held the Royals to three hits and one run in seven innings. Opponents are now hitting just .214 against Young (6-4, 3.23 ERA) this season. That's third-best in the American League.
Hot6/1/2014 9:33:00 AM
Description: Mariners starter Chris Young limited the Tigers to two runs on three hits in six inning Saturday night to win his fifth start of the season.
Insight: The 6-foot-10 right-hander's fielding-independent numbers are terrible (30/25 K/BB, 1.42 HR/9), but he has a 3.27 ERA due to a .188 BABIP. He may come crashing down at some point, but he should be owned in all AL-only leagues at the very least until that happens.
5/26/2014 7:15:00 PM
Description: Mariners starter Chris Young is 4-2 with a 3.30 ERA and a 1.15 WHIP this season.
Insight: He won against the Angels Monday after allowing one run on two hits in 6 1/3 innings. The 6-foot-10 right-hander's fielding-independent numbers are terrible (24/23 K/BB, 1.41 HR/9 in 57 1/3 IP, 5.51 FIP) so he's unlikely to keep this up.
3/27/2014 9:30:00 PM
Description: The Mariners signed RHP Chris Young to a one-year contract on Thursday. He'll immediately join the M's rotation as the No. 4 starter.
Insight: He was released by the Nationals on Tuesday. The oft-injured Young didn't pitch in the majors last season and gave up four earned runs with nine Ks in 10 1/3 innings this spring. Young has a career 3.79 ERA and a 1.22 WHIP, but he's thrown only 337 1/3 innings in the big leagues since 2008 because of multiple shoulder issues and thoracic outlet syndrome.

Insight: The oft-injured Young didn't pitch in the majors last season and threw 37 innings in the Nats' minor league system. He gave up four earned runs and struck out nine batters in 10 1/3 innings this spring.
2/21/2013 6:14:00 PM
Description: The Nationals have signed right-hander Chris Young to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.
Insight: The oft-injured Young threw 115 innings with the Mets in 2012, his most since 2007, and wet 4-9 with a 4.15 ERA and 1.35 WHIP. He might be able to latch on with Washington in John Lannan's old role as No. 6 starter.
8/2/2012 7:16:00 PM
Description: Mets right-hander Chris Young improved to 3-5 with one of his best outings of the season Thursday against San Francisco. Young scattered four hits and allowed one run with no walks in seven innings.
Insight: Young had lost his last four decisions and was coming off his worst start of the season July 28 at Arizona. The right-hander has been solid, allowing three earned runs or less in nine of his 11 starts this season, and is worth an add in deeper leagues.
6/23/2012 10:33:00 PM
Description: Mets right-hander Chris Young seemed to be cruising toward his second win of the season Saturday against the Yankees, as he shut out New York through six innings. However, he surrendered a game-tying three-run homer to Raul Ibanez in the seventh.
Insight: Young still finished with his second straight quality start, but not getting the win is a bit of a disappointment for fantasy owners considering how strong he looked earlier in the game.

Insight: Young returned from a shoulder injury to throw five innings of two-run ball against Washington last week before leaving the team following the birth of his child. He's worth a look in deeper mixed leagues, but he might struggle to stay on the hill.
6/12/2012 11:12:00 AM
Description: Mets right-hander Chris Young (paternity leave) is scheduled to start on Tuesday against Tampa Bay.
Insight: Young just returned from a shoulder injury to pitch five innings against Washington last week. He gave up six hits and two earned runs while striking out two batters. At the moment we don't think he's a fantasy-worthy starter.
6/4/2012 7:12:00 PM

Insight: Young is 1-0 with a 2.35 ERA in four minor league starts this season. His most recent outing came last Thursday as a member of the Triple-A Buffalo Bisons. He tossed six shutout innings in that performance. The 6-foot-10 righthander is 49-34 with a 3.74 ERA in 139 career major league starts.
6/1/2012 8:28:00 PM
Description: Mets starter Chris Young (shoulder) said Friday that he plans on making two more starts at Triple-A Buffalo, according to Adam Rubin of ESPN New York.
Insight: Young's fastball has been topping out at 82-84 mph in his minor league rehab starts. On Thursday, the right-hander threw six scoreless innings for Triple-A Buffalo in what was his fourth minor league start. Young has held batters to a .218 BAA in his career, but he's thrown just 222 1/3 innings in the last four seasons combined.
