(Sports Network) - Jerome Williams goes after a fourth consecutive win on Saturday when the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim continue a three-game series with the Seattle Mariners at Angel Stadium.
Williams had gone more than two months without a victory, but has won his last three starts and put forth a terrific effort on Sunday in Houston, as he held the woeful Astros to just a run and five hits over seven innings.
"I probably threw three balls up in the zone, two by design, one by accident," said Williams, who retired the last seven batters he faced and improved to 8-10 to go along with a 4.65 ERA. "That one by accident was a homer."
Seattle, meanwhile, will counter with lefty Joe Saunders, who is 11-15 with a 5.16 ERA. Saunders lost his second straight start on Monday in Detroit, as he gave up three runs in 5 2/3 innings.
Over his past eight starts Saunders is 1-5 with a 7.14 ERA.
Saunders, who pitched the first five-plus seasons of his career with the Angels, 1-2 with a 1.29 ERA in three career starts against his former team.
In Friday's opener, Chris Iannetta's RBI single in the 11th inning led Los Angeles to a 3-2 win. Andrew Romine went 3-for-4 and drove in the other two runs for the Angels, who have won five of their last six games.
"I was just looking to get on base, he threw me a slider and I was able to put the barrel on it," said Iannetta.
Cory Rasmus (1-1) got his first career win for pitching a 1-2-3 top of the 11th.
Michael Saunders brought in both runs for the Mariners, who have lost five of their last six.
"It was a good ballgame, both teams weren't able to get that final big hit until the end," said Seattle manager Eric Wedge. "We were one hit away."
The Angels have won 10 of 17 from the Mariners, a year after winning the 2012 season series, 11-8.
