(Sunday, June 15)
Final Score: Seattle 5, Texas 1
Seattle, WA (SportsNetwork.com) - Kyle Seager had four hits and three RBI to power the Seattle Mariners to a 5-1 victory over the Texas Rangers in the final contest of a three-game set.
Seager finished 4-for-4 with a run scored while Dustin Ackley and Brad Miller both supplied an RBI for Seattle, which snapped a five-game skid.
Starter Hisashi Iwakuma (5-3) surrendered just one run on six hits with no walks and six strikeouts across eight solid innings to earn the win.
"Fortunate for us, [Iwakuma] threw the ball really well and kept us in it," Seager said. "We were able to get him some runs late."
Brad Snyder's first career homer accounted for Texas' lone run and starter Nick Martinez (1-4) was tagged with the loss after giving up two runs on nine hits over six innings for the Rangers, who had their three-game win streak come to an end.
"I've been waiting for that first big-league homer for a long time," said Snyder. "It's something I'll never forget."
In the second, Snyder crushed a first-pitch sinker over the wall in left- center to give the Rangers an early lead.
Endy Chavez singled to right and Robinson Cano walked before Seager clubbed a liner to the right-field corner to plate both runners and give the Mariners a 2-1 lead in the fifth.
The Mariners pulled away in the eighth. Seager doubled to right to bring home a run, and Mike Zunino and Ackley supplied back-to-back singles that scored Seager from third.
Ben Rowen replaced Robbie Ross Jr. on the mound. Willie Bloomquist's sacrifice bunt moved the runners to second and third before Miller's sacrifice fly made it a 5-1 game.
Seattle has won five of its last six games on Father's Day ... Seattle starters have allowed just two runs in 21 1/3 innings across the last three starts ... Texas shortstop Elvis Andrus and second baseman Luis Sardinas both extended their hitting streaks to six games.
