Angels' Iannetta named AL Player of the Week

New York, NY (Sports Network) - Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim catcher Chris Iannetta has been named the American League Player of the Week for the period ending Sept. 15.

Iannetta batted .429 with three home runs, five RBI and seven runs scored over six games to claim his first weekly honor, becoming the first Angels catcher to take home the award since Ellie Rodriguez was the franchise's first weekly winner during the 1974 season.

The 30-year-old backstop led the AL with a .952 slugging percentage while finishing second to teammate Mark Trumbo in total bases with 20.

Others considered for the award included Iannetta's teammates Kole Calhoun, Josh Hamilton and Trumbo, Oakland's Jose Donaldson, Detroit's Rick Porcello and Carlos Santana and Ubaldo Jimenez of the Indians.
