NCAA Game Summary - New Mexico State at Fresno State

(Saturday, October 16th)

Final Score: Fresno State 33, New Mexico State 10

Fresno, CA (Sports Network) - Robbie Rouse ran for a season-high 150 yards and a pair of touchdowns as the Fresno State Bulldogs dominated the New Mexico State Aggies, 33-10, in a Western Athletic Conference showdown at Bulldog Stadium.

Rouse carried the ball 16 times for the Bulldogs (4-2, 2-1 WAC) as they picked up their second win in the last three outings. Quarterback Ryan Colburn converted 12-of-20 passes for 132 yards and a score as well for the home team.

The Aggies (1-5, 0-2) had difficulty getting their offense into gear, with quarterback Matt Christian hitting on 11-of-22 passes for 155 yards and backup Andrew Manley's two completed passes generating just a single yard as both signal-callers suffered a pair of sacks in the losing effort on the road.

Fresno State ripped off 16 straight points to open the meeting as Rouse reached the end zone on a 57-yard run early in the first quarter and fellow running back Isaiah Burse racing 30 yards for a TD later in the frame. In between those two touchdowns, the Bulldogs also logged a safety.

With only seconds remaining in the first period, NMSU kicker Tyler Stampler put the Aggies on the board with a 24-yard field goal, making the score 16-3 heading into the second quarter. Stampler's successful kick capped a nine- play, 71-yard drive that consumed just over three minutes on the clock.

At the 9:08 mark of the second stanza Rouse scored his second TD of the night, this time from 38 yards away, while Colburn connected with tight end Tapa Taumoepeau on a three-yard scoring pass to give the Bulldogs a commanding 30-3 advantage at the break.

Following a scoreless third quarter, FSU kicker Kevin Goessling's 47-yard field goal boosted the Bulldogs lead to 30 points before a Kenny Turner 19- yard TD run for the Aggies midway through the frame left the hosts with the 23-point triumph.

Fresno State generated 222 yards rushing on 37 attempts on the night, while NMSU was credited with a net of just 111 yards, even though Seth Smith and Turner combined for 160 yards on 26 attempts.
