(Saturday, October 8th)

Final Score: TCU 27, San Diego State 14

San Diego, CA (Sports Network) - Behind a strong defensive effort, the visiting TCU Horned Frogs won their 19th consecutive Mountain West Conference game, posting a 27-14 win over the San Diego State Aztecs at Qualcomm Stadium.

TCU (4-2, 2-0) was led by tailback Ed Wesley, who put forth a workmanlike performance, rumbling for 146 yards on 24 carries. Quarterback Casey Pachall completed 14-of-22 passes, for 212 yards and two TDs. Antoine Hicks was responsible for almost half of that, finishing with seven catches, for 103 yards and one TD.

The hometown Aztecs (3-2, 0-1) turned the ball over four times and managed a meager 296 yards of total offense. Ryan Lindley was a mere 15-of-41 passing, for 2-1 yards, with two TDs and three INTs. SDSU's talented tailback Ronnie Hillman was bottled up, finishing with just 55 yards on 20 carries.

The first half belonged to the Horned Frogs, who opened the scoring with a 47- yard field goal by Ross Evans at the 10:41 mark of the first quarter. TCU added a pair of first half touchdown passes from Pachall, a 39-yarder to Hicks at the end of the first quarter and a 31-yarder to Josh Boyce at the 6:14 mark of the second quarter, giving the visiting team a 17-0 lead at the break.

A 21-yard field goal by Evans midway through the third quarter extended TCU's lead to 20-0.

The Aztecs turned things around and made a game of it early in the fourth quarter, with a 16-yard TD pass from Lindley to Gavin Escobar late in the third quarter and a four-yard TD pass to Chad Young at the 13:39 mark of the final stanza.

However, the Horned Frogs would stand tall down the stretch, giving themselves some breathing room late with a four-yard Matthew Tucker TD run to make it 27-14.

TCU's defense, which played well most of the game, didn't allow the Aztecs to mount a comeback from that point on.

The 19 straight MWC victories is a conference-record. The Horned Frogs moved to 7-0 against San Diego State all-time with the win.
