Final Score: Northern Illinois 31, Buffalo 30

Buffalo, NY (Sports Network) - Jasmin Hopkins scored three rushing touchdowns, and the Northern Illinois Huskies held on to beat Buffalo 31-30 in a Mid- American Conference tilt at UB Stadium.

Hopkins scored on runs of one, 12 and one yard to help lead the Huskies (5-2, 3-1 MAC) to their third straight win.

Chazz Anderson threw for 404 yards and three TDs for the Bulls (2-6, 1-3), who have now lost their last seven meetings with NIU. Anderson also tossed a pair of interceptions. Branden Oliver had 112 yards on 28 carries, while Marcus Rivers (10 rec, 114 yds) and Alex Neutz (nine rec, 135 yds) each went over 100 yards receiving with a touchdown.

After the teams traded field goals in the first quarter, Hopkins gave the Huskies a 10-3 lead at the 5:45 mark of the second quarter, capping an 18- play, 79-yard drive that took more than seven minutes off the clock.

Two minutes later, the Bulls tied the score on a three-yard touchdown run by Anderson.

However, it was all NIU through the end of the third quarter. Chandler Harnish scored on a six-yard scamper with just 37 seconds to play until halftime to make it a 17-10 game.

On the third play of the third quarter, Hopkins found the end zone again, this time on a 12-yard run to push the Huskies' lead to 24-10.

Hopkins notched his third touchdown of the day at the 8:49 mark of the third quarter to put the Huskies on top, 31-10.

But the Bulls clawed their way back in the fourth quarter thanks to a trio of touchdown passes by Anderson. The first was a five-yard scoring strike to Neutz with 12:38 to play, and the second was a 15-yard connection to Rivers to make it a 31-24 game with 4:14 remaining. UB put together a late 14-play, 88- yard drive, with Anderson finding Ed Young for a three-yard touchdown pass with 14 seconds remaining in regulation. However, Peter Fardon missed the extra point as NIU dodged overtime.

UB held a 33-15 edge in first downs and a 572-328 advantage in total offense for the game. However, the Bulls committed five turnovers on offense, and that late special teams gaffe cost them a chance to win the game.
