Tulsa, OK (Sports Network) - G.J. Kinney completed 19-of-34 pass attempts for
325 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Tulsa Golden Hurricane to a 31-28 win
over the Texas-El Paso Miners in a Conference USA bout at Chapman Stadium.
Damaris Johnson was Kinney's favorite target, leading all Tulsa (8-3, 5-2
CUSA) wide receivers with six catches for 146 yards. Johnson also carried the
ball four times for 22 yards and a touchdown.
UTEP (6-6, 3-5) was paced by Joseph Banyard who carried the ball 20 times for
155 yards and three touchdowns.
UTEP took the first lead of the game late in the first quarter, with a 28-
yard touchdown run from Banyard.
Tulsa responded in the closing minute of the first period, with a 19-yard
touchdown strike from Kinney to Wille Carter.
The Miners responded on their ensuing possession with a 66-yard touchdown run
from Banyard to give them a 14-7 lead.
The Golden Hurricane tied the game midway through the second quarter, with a
six-yard run by Johnson.
Once again UTEP responded, as Marlon McClure returned the ensuing kickoff 73-
yards for a touchdown.
Tulsa was able to tie the game in the closing minute of the first half, with
a 12-yard pass from Kinney to Charles Clay sending both teams into the locker
room with a 21-21 tie.
Tulsa took a 24-21 lead early in the third quarter with a 23-yard field goal
by Kevin Fitzpatrick.
The Miners responded minutes later with a five-yard run by Banyard, giving
UTEP a 28-24 lead.
Tulsa regained the lead on its next drive with a one-yard touchdown plunge by
Alex Singleton and never looked back, as its defense stiffened and sealed the

Tulsa outgained UTEP 325-140 through the air.
