NCAA Game Summary - Kent State at Miami-Ohio

Oxford, OH (Sports Network) - Zac Dysert threw for 294 yards and a touchdown with no interceptions to lead the Miami-Ohio RedHawks to a 27-21 victory over the Kent State Golden Flashes in a Mid-American Conference battle at Yager Stadium.

Dysert completed an efficient 31-of-46 under center to pace Miami-Ohio (3-2, 2-0 MAC) in the win, while Thomas Merriweather gained 54 yards on the ground with a touchdown on just 11 carries. Chris Givens caught five passes for 104 yards for the RedHawks, while Jamal Rogers grabbed eight balls for 90 yards.

Jacquise Terry ran for 86 yards and a pair of touchdowns to lead the way for Kent State (1-3, 0-1) in the losing effort, but signal-caller Spencer Keith had a rough day for the Golden Flashes, completing 11-of-26 passes for 152 yards with no touchdowns and two costly interceptions.

The Golden Flashes struck first in this one, as Terry found the end zone following a 39-yard run early in the first period of play.

The RedHawks responded late in the frame with a 36-yard Trevor Cook field goal.

Terry scored again early in the second quarter on a two-yard run to give the Golden Flashes a 14-3 lead.

A three-yard strike from Dysert to Armand Robinson late in the frame cut the Kent State lead to 14-10 at halftime.

The third quarter yielded no scores for either squad, but the RedHawks earned their first lead of the afternoon early in the final period of play, as Merriweather scored at the end of a six-yard scamper.

The RedHawks found the end zone again less than a minute later with a blocked punt returned 18 yards for a touchdown by Evan Harris to give Miami-Ohio a 24-14 advantage.

The Golden Flashes responded minutes later with a nine-yard run by Keith to pull Kent State to within three, but a 21-yard Cook field goal late in the stanza gave the RedHawks a 27-21 lead that they would not relinquish.
