It was an historic victory for the Huskies (4-4, 1-2 Big East), who had never
beaten the Mountaineers in six prior meetings, losing by an average score
of 40-17 in those contests.
Zach Frazer completed 18-of-29 tosses for 166 yards and Jordan Todman carried
33 times for 113 yards and one touchdown for Connecticut, which remains a
perfect 4-0 at home this season.
Geno Smith threw for 160 yards on 22-of-34 efficiency for the Mountaineers
(5-3, 1-2), who were coming off a loss to Syracuse last Saturday that knocked
them from the national rankings.
West Virginia got the ball to begin overtime. Smith led the team to the one-
yard line, where on first down Ryan Clarke fumbled and Lawrence Wilson
recovered for Connecticut, setting the stage for Teggart's heroics on the
The Mountaineers built a 10-0 lead in the first quarter on a 53-yard TD run by
Brad Starks and a 36-yard Tyler Bitancurt field goal.
Teggart drilled a 39-yarder to put UConn on the board in the waning seconds of
the second quarter.
Following the break, Todman ran for a 24-yard touchdown, tying the game with
6:17 remaining in the third quarter. The score capped a 14-play, 71-yard drive
that consumed over five minutes of the clock.
The Mountaineers responded on their next series, as Bitancurt converted a 42-
yard try to make it 13-10 with 1:46 left in the stanza.
It was all even again after Teggart made a 26-yard field goal less than five
minutes into the fourth quarter.
