Cincinnati, OH (Sports Network) - Dion Lewis carried the ball 42 times for a
career-high 261 yards and four touchdowns to lead the Pittsburgh Panthers to a
28-10 win over the Cincinnati Bearcats in Big East Conference play at Nippert
Tino Sunseri orchestrated the Panthers (7-5 5-2 Big East) on offense,
completing 14-of-23 pass attempts for 158 yards.
The Bearcats (4-8, 2-5) were led by Zach Collaros, who completed 12-of-24 pass
attempts for 109 yards and a touchdown. He, however, was intercepted three
times. Isaiah Pead also made a significant impact on offense, toting the ball
19 times for 97 yards in a losing effort.
The Panthers took a 7-0 lead on a two-yard run from Lewis late in the first
quarter and never looked back.
Lewis wasted little time in extending his team's lead, as he ripped off a 76-
yard touchdown run on Pittsburgh's next possession to make it a 14-0 game.
The Bearcats answered on their ensuing drive with a three-yard pass from
Collaros to Anthony McClung.
Pittsburgh went back to its running game, as Lewis capped off a 12-play, 68-
yard drive with a seven-yard touchdown run to make it a 21-7 contest.
Cincinnati got back on the board in the closing minute of the first half,
with a 33-yard field goal from Jake Rogers. The Bearcats, though, still went
into the locker room trailing, 21-10.
After a scoreless third quarter, the Panthers put the final touches on a
dominant performance with a 21-yard touchdown run from Lewis to seal the 28-10
Pittsburgh outgained the Bearcats 430-265 in the win, as it earned a share of
the Big East title. However, West Virginia's victory over Rutgers rendered the
Panthers incapable of representing the Big East in a BCS bowl game.
