NCAA Game Summary - B-Y-U at Florida State

Tallahassee, FL (Sports Network) - Chris Thompson rumbled for 123 yards and a
touchdown to help lift the Florida State Seminoles to a 34-10 win over the BYU
Cougars in a non-conference tilt at Doak Campbell Stadium.
TY Jones also rushed for 95 yards and scored twice for FSU (2-1). Christian
Ponder threw for 149 yards and a score, in addition to 50 yards and a TD on
the ground.
J.J. DiLuigi (1-2) headlined the BYU offense with 93 rushing yards on 18
carries in the loss.
FSU got on the board first with a 26-yard field goal by Dustin Hopkins in the
final minute of the first quarter. Hopkins added a 47-yarder at the 9:56 mark
of the second quarter to give the Seminoles a 6-0 advantage.
Two minutes later, Thompson broke free for an 83-yard touchdown run to make it
a 13-0 game.
BYU answered with a 28-yard field goal by Mitch Payne on its next drive.
The Cougars got the ball back with just over two minutes to play in the half,
then put together an 11-play drive that was capped by Jake Heaps' four-yard
touchdown pass to Cody Hoffman.
FSU pushed its lead back to 10 points midway through the third quarter, when
Ponder found Jones for a two-yard scoring strike.
Ponder later scored on a one-yard QB sneak with just under a minute remaining
in the third quarter, extending the Seminoles' lead to 27-10. Jones scored on
a nine-yard run in the final two minutes to account for the final margin.
The Seminoles won the battle in the trenches, as they rushed for 278 yards
(6.3 ypc) and three touchdowns as a team.
