Waco, TX (Sports Network) - Robert Griffin threw for a career-high 380 yards
and three touchdowns, leading Baylor to a 55-7 rout over the Kansas Jayhawks
in Big 12 play at
Josh Gordan (4 rec, 161 yds) and Terrance Williams (4 rec, 101 yds) each
caught a pair of touchdown passes in helping Baylor (4-1, 1-0 Big 12) win just
its fourth league opener since the Big 12 was formed in 1996. Griffin added a
team-best 64 yards and a touchdown on the ground to finish with a school-
record 444 total yards. The Bears' 678 yards of total offense were also a
Kansas (2-3, 0-1) committed four turnovers and finished with just 278 yards of
total offense. Jordan Webb threw for 171 yards and a touchdown, though he also
threw two interceptions, lost a fumble and was sacked three times.
Baylor opened the scoring with a 39-yard touchdown pass from Griffin to Gordon
at the 12:52 mark of the first quarter.
On the Jayhawks' next possession, they lost a fumble deep in their own
territory to set up a 37-yard field goal by Baylor kicker Aaron Jones.
The Bears made it a 17-0 game in the opening minutes of the second quarter,
when Griffin capped a 10-play, 97-yard drive with a one-yard touchdown plunge.
Kansas finally got on the board at the 10:24 mark of the second quarter, as
Webb connected with Daymond Patterson for a 19-yard touchdown pass.
But the Bears pushed their lead to 24-7 later in the second quarter, when
Griffin hooked up with Gordon for a school-record 94-yard scoring strike.
Jones booted a 50-yard field goal as time expired in the first half to send
Baylor to the locker room with a 27-7 lead at intermission.
Baylor's offense picked up right where it left off to start the second half,
as Kendall Wright hit Williams for a 50-yard touchdown on an option pass to
make it a 34-7 game.
Williams hauled in another touchdown pass from Griffin at the 6:56 mark of the
third quarter, this time from 11 yards.
The flood gates really opened on the first play of the Jayhawks' next
possession, as Tim Atchison intercepted Webb and returned it 14 yards for a

the fourth quarter, as Glasco Martin capped a 12-play, 72-yard drive with a
one-yard touchdown plunge.
For Baylor, the win marked the program's most lopsided victory ever in
conference play. Kansas falls to 0-5 all-time against Baylor in Waco, Texas.
