Nashville, TN (Sports Network) - Larry Smith threw for a pair of touchdowns
and ran for a third, as the Vanderbilt Commodores trounced the Eastern
Michigan Eagles, 52-6, in a non-conference tussle in Nashville.
Smith threw for 253 yards on 16-of-27 tosses for Vanderbilt (2-3), which
rolled up 558 yards of total offense. John Cole made four catches for 103
yards and a score, while Zac Stacy ran for a team-high 90 yards and a
touchdown on five carries. Warren Norman was also effective on the ground,
toting 14 times for 75 yards and two scores.
Alex Gillett had a rough game under center for EMU (0-6), as he completed just
10-of-20 tosses for only 99 yards and an interception. The Eagles had just 209
yards of total offense, while converting a mere 3-of-15 third-down chances.
The Commodores scored just over a minute into the game with a one-yard run
from Smith. The run was setup by a 54-yard punt return by Cole to the Eagle
EMU countered later with a 22-yard field goal by Sean Graham.
Vanderbilt took over in the second quarter, scoring 24-unanswered points for a
31-3 halftime advantage. Norman started things off with a 19-yard run for a
score before Ryan Fowler booted a 22-yard field goal. Udom Umoh than hauled in
a 65-yard touchdown pass from Smith, who closed the half with a one-yard toss
to Mason Johnston.

The Commodores came right back with a 67-yard touchdown run from Stacy. Norman
followed with an 11-yard scamper to paydirt late in the third quarter.
Backup Jared Funk tossed a 57-yard touchdown pass to Cole early in the fourth
quarter to put the finishing touches on the rout for Vanderbilt.
