NCAA Game Summary - Utah State at Hawaii

Final Score: Hawaii 49, Utah State 36

Honolulu, HI (Sports Network) - Leon Wright-Jackson ran for 167 yards and three touchdowns, as the Hawaii Warriors defeated the Utah State Aggies, 49-36, in a Western Athletic Conference showdown at Aloha Stadium.

Alex Green added 110 yards on the ground for Hawaii (3-6, 1-5 WAC), which snapped a six-game slide. Quarterback Bryant Moniz also had a big night with 337 yards and four touchdowns on 21-of-37 pass attempts, while Greg Salas pulled in 10 passes for 187 yards and two scores.

Diondre Borel led the way for Utah State (2-7, 1-4), which has dropped five of six games, completing 25-of-38 pass attempts for 344 yards and a pair of scores. He also had a rushing touchdown. Robert Turbin also got into the mix, as he rushed for 60 yards and two scores on 13 carries.

The Aggies jumped out quickly, as Turbin scored on a seven-yard run just minutes into the game.

Hawaii, however, took over from their, scoring 35-unanswered points for a 35-7 lead at the intermission. The Warriors began their run with a 57-yard touchdown pass from Moniz to Jon Medeiros early in the first quarter before Wright-Jackson scored on a one-yard plunge late in the frame. Things carried over into the second quarter, as Moniz hit Jovonte Taylor from 35 yards out early in the period. Wright-Jackson then scurried nine yards to paydirt prior to Moniz throwing a 10-yard touchdown pass to Salas late in the first half.

Utah State tried to rally in the second half and come out of the break with some energy, as Turbin scored on a three-yard run early in the third quarter. Borel then threw a 16-yard touchdown pass to Jeremy Mitchell, making it a 35-21 game.

Hawaii, however, was able to respond late in the third quarter, as Wright- Jackson capped a six-play, 80-yard drive with a five-yard touchdown run.

Borel refused to let the Aggies go quietly and he threw a 31-yard touchdown pass to Michael Smith early in the final quarter.

The Warriors had an answer though, and they put the game away with a four-yard touchdown pass from Moniz to Salas.

The game's final points came on a one-yard touchdown run from Borel, who than completed a two-point conversion attempt for a 49-36 final.

Hawaii piled up 697 yards of total offense in the game, with 360 of those yards coming on the ground. The Warriors averaged 9.7 yards per carry in the win.
