Knoxville, TN (Sports Network) - Jonathan Crompton threw for 310 yards and
four touchdowns as he led the Tennessee Volunteers to a 45-19 victory over
the Georgia Bulldogs in an SEC battle at Neyland Stadium.
Gerald Jones had a big day in the win for Tennessee (3-3, 1-2 SEC), as the
wideout hauled in five passes for 105 yards and two scores. Montario Hardesty
led the way on the ground for the Vols, rushing for 97 yards and one
touchdown, while Bryce Brown added 21 yards and a score on nine totes.
Joe Cox struggled in the loss, as the signal caller threw for just 146 yards
and also tossed two interceptions for Georgia (3-3, 2-2), which has lost two
After a scoreless first quarter, the Vols cracked the scoreboard with a six-
yard touchdown pass from Crompton to Jones.
However, the lead was short-lived for Tennessee, as Brandon Boykin returned
the ensuing kickoff 100 yards to pay dirt, evening the score at seven apiece.
Less than two minutes later the Vols regained the lead when Crompton connected
with Denarius Moore for a 33-yard scoring strike.
Georgia cut its deficit to four points when Blair Walsh connected on a 52-
field goal with just over five minutes remaining in the opening half.
Crompton continued his dominance over Georgia though, as the signal caller
tossed his third touchdown pass of the quarter, connecting with Marsalis
Teague for a five-yard score.
The Bulldogs recorded a safety off a blocked punt in the final seconds of the
second quarter, and went into the break on the wrong end of a 21-12 score.
The Vols opened the second half with a 30-yard field goal by Daniel Lincoln to
push their lead to 24-12.
But the Bulldogs answered back less than two minutes later when Bacarri Rambo
returned an interception 28 yards for a touchdown.
Tennessee responded with a 39-yard touchdown run by Hardesty with just over
four minutes remaining in the third quarter.
Crompton threw his fourth touchdown of the contest with just seconds remaining
in the third quarter, as the signal caller and Jones hooked up again, this
time for a 51-yard score.
Tennessee scored the lone touchdown in the fourth quarter, as Brown plunged
into the endzone from one-yard out, pushing the Vols advantage to 45-19.
The Volunteers nearly doubled the Bulldogs in offensive production, as they
racked up 472 total yards compared to Georgia's meager 241 yards of offense.
