Everton gets Lukaku injury boost

Liverpool, England (SportsNetwork.com) - Everton manager Roberto Martinez got some good news on Wednesday as it was revealed that striker Romelu Lukaku will not miss as much time as originally thought because of an ankle injury.

Lukaku had to be withdrawn from Tuesday's 4-0 defeat against Liverpool after 25 minutes and he left Anfield with a cast on his foot.

Initial indications were that the on-loan Chelsea striker was facing a lengthy injury absence after damaging ankle ligaments, but Martinez delivered the positive news on Wednesday that Lukaku will be returning earlier than expected.

"There is no ligament damage and the injury is not as bad as we first thought," Martinez told the club's official website.

"It will be a case of weeks rather than months."

The 20-year-old has netted nine goals in 19 games since arriving at Goodison Park in September, but his absence will damage Everton's chances of finishing in the top four with the club four points adrift of fourth-place Liverpool.
