GAME NOTES: Owners of one of the longest home winning streaks in the country, the Colorado State Rams try to extend their run to 24 in a row as they host the UNLV Runnin' Rebels in a Mountain West Conference showdown at Moby Arena.

On Wednesday night, the Rams completely dominated the Air Force Falcons at home, posting a 79-40 victory in order to establish a new school record with their 23rd consecutive home win. The previous mark of 22 in a row had stood since 1960-62 when Colorado State played at South College Gym.

The victory for CSU was the eighth in the last nine outings, the lone setback during the run being a 79-72 overtime defeat at the hands of nationally-ranked San Diego State a week ago.

As for the Runnin' Rebels, they just recently fell out of the national rankings themselves, but depending on the outcome of this meeting there is a good chance the squad could be right back among the nation's best. Since losing to New Mexico back on Jan. 9, the team has posted a 76-71 overtime win against Air Force last weekend and an 82-75 triumph over nationally-ranked San Diego State on the road Wednesday night.

With respect to the all-time series between these two teams, UNLV has a 33-10 advantage.

In a game that featured five ties and nine lead changes, the Runnin' Rebels were the ones who were ahead at the right time on Wednesday night as they upended San Diego State at Viejas Arena. The visitors made good on 51.6 percent from the floor, compared to just 38.8 percent for the Aztecs, the hosts connected on only 3-of-19 behind the 3-point line along the way. Anthony Marshall filled out his stat line with 20 points, eight rebounds and five assists, followed by Bryce Dejean-Jones and Khem Birch with 14 and 12 points, respectively. Perhaps the best news of the night, aside from winning the game, is that the Rebels made it happen even as Mike Moser and Anthony Bennett with held to only nine points apiece and a combined nine rebounds. Bennett, who kept the squad together while Moser nursed his injuries, remains the only player in double digit scoring with his 19.0 ppg and is also first with 8.9 rpg. The return of Moser means the Rebels have two players who have the potential to log a double-double on any given night, although at the moment Moser is averaging just 9.5 ppg and 7.2 rpg.

It didn't take long for the Rams to take control against Air Force three nights ago, limiting the visitors to just eight field goals in the first half and 1-of-8 shooting beyond the arc in the frame. In addition to forcing 19 Falcons turnovers, CSU also held a huge 40-19 advantage on the glass, limiting the Academy to only three boards at the offensive end of the floor. Wes Eikmeier led the way with 17 points for the home team, while Colton Iverson responded with 15 and seven boards and Pierce Hornung 12 points and a game- high nine rebounds. Jon Octeus added 10 points off the bench as the Rams shot almost 51 percent from the floor in the contest. Rebounding has been a huge piece of the puzzle for the Rams this season with them beating opponents by 14.5 rpg at the moment. With that edge on the glass CSU is creating more scoring opportunities as well, leading to a 15.5 ppg scoring margin through 17 games. Iverson is responsible for 14.9 ppg and 8.9 rpg, but also capable of putting together a double-double at any point is Hornung (9.6 ppg, 10.3 rpg).

Both of these teams are capable of hitting the glass with a vengeance, but after taking out SDSU on the road, the Runnin' Rebels are the ones operating on adrenaline right now, and having Moser back on the floor is certainly a bonus.
